Thanks!
I tried not to do that, but I know that I don’t have that much experience and am on the low end of the age requirement. Am trying to boost my chances with my trilingual-ish skills:D
Best of luck to all of us; 12 months to go.
If you know multiple languages (including good english, which it appears you do), then you shouldn’t have too many issues. The low age might be your main problem.
Though I’m guessing that there will be a lot of younger people as the older you get, the more likely it is you have kids / job / other commitments and therefore aren’t as reliable when it comes to volunteering for Olympics that are a year away!
I’m sure if you get an interview and show them your skills, you’ll be fine.
Seeing as I haven’t posted for a while I thought I would give everyone my update. (insert yawn here) I am still on a holding pattern as far as Sochi and the test events are concerned. I have Video Skyped my contact (who works with Elena) once a week for the past month and I still have yet to receive the “official confirmation” from him.
It appears however, that I have been narrowed down to work the Olympic Village (cool!) or the Ice Hockey venue. (Even cooler! Sorry, bad pun…) Either way would be great, however, I would prefer the Hockey venue, as this would allow me to go work a test event in late April.
Having said that, if I have to wait until MAY to hear my results that would totally suck! However, like everyone else, I will remain patient, hopeful and optimistic that all of us on this board will share the Olympic experience together!
Anyone else?...

Hopefully.
Nothing new to update for you guys. Might email Elena sometime in the next week or so and see if I am going to get that contact from the manager
I did email Elena, crossing my fingers now.
So I read through this thread and it seems that I’m missing the Detech test and interview invitations, as well as the volunteer hub email..I’m getting so crazy and nervous D:
Man, I just finished college applications; my nerves must be so messed up by now.
Lol dude, chill.
The Detech test you don’t even need to do unless you’re Russian.
The interview invitations came after we emailed Elena.
Hi everyone
Is someone going to Sochi for test events in March?
Got all ready for my interview today at 5pm Moscow time, only to have it not happen. It’s now about 6:15 Moscow time and I have to go to school for the day (I’m in Canada). I applied to Volunteer in London2012 and after my interview my application somehow got lost in the mess. I never got another phone call or anything, while the Olympics were still on my file still said it was in progress.
I really, really, do not want that to happen again. I have experience volunteering at the 2010 Games and am really looking forward to Sochi.
TJ, I sent you a PM asking for a little help. Thanks.
Hi guys,
Welcome to the boards.
Koonja, neither Me or Oz (the 2 regulars here) can make it to the test events due to $3000+ flights to Russia from Australia. I think one person was keen though so keep an eye out / read some of the older posts.
Guigui1519, that sucks that your interview had issues. I had mine as one of the first one’s they did in the day and they were already 30 mins late. I’d email Elena (as I pm’d you) and just say what happened and hopefully you can re-schedule. Sounds like it could have been an honest mistake but if you don’t follow it up, they might forget about you. (wouldn’t want that!!!)
I’m thinking I might follow mine up again (as they didn’t tell me May) just to keep my names in their minds
TJ
I emailed elena, but also the woman who had emailed me with the interview info. Thankfully she got back to me today and gave me another interview slot tomorrow. It’s the same slot as I had on monday and falls at the end of the day… so I hope the same thing doesn’t happen again. Thanks for your help though mate.
I just finished the first part of the process and am pumped. How long after getting your email did you get started on the English test and hear about interview.
Well we started April last year and only just had interviews… but at the same time, they are actually doing stuff now
I had my interview mid December and still haven’t heard a word either way. I figure I’ll give them another week or so and contact them.
Certainly would be nice to know soon, that way if selected I might try to buy some tickets to a few events… gold medal hockey sounds good
I’d be interested in hearing if anyone gets asked to the test events or even if they know they have had a security check / criminal record check done.

I started this process March of last year! I agree with what TJ suggested previously in one of his post’s to be patient, things are going to start happening quickly. (I had my Skype interview in December) It sucks waiting, however, it will be worth the wait in the long run!
Having said that, has anyone on the board worked a “test event” yet? I’m really hopeful that I will be going to Sochi for the U-18 Hockey Tournament in late April and I’m curious about accommodations, transportation, food, down-time, etc.
If anyone has any information to share, I’d really appreciate it!

I chose events as my volunteer section. Hopefully that means I can be an usher or something. How awesome would it be to go to all events and show people their seats for FREE!
As I mentioned in an earlier post, they told me that they were using local volunteers for the U18 hockey test event in April. Email I recieved is below.
Dear Dan, thank you for your letter and sorry for late reply. You’re not required to come for the test events, these will be covered by local volunteers. We still go on with application process and will hope to have evaluation results by May. Anyway we will notify all our candidates.
Kind Regards,
Vol Center
I was interviewed back in October, and have sent occasional emails. Keeping my fingers crossed, I purchased tics to the mens gold medal hockey game and the mens curling gold.
