I am currently looking at avalanche safety gear for nz this year after doing some bc in niseko. I was told to look at the bca tracker 2 beacon. Has anyone got this beacon or maybe another i should be looking at? Thanks
Yeah I had a BCA Tracker DTS (which I have given to my mate) and my girl friend still uses the BCA Tracker DTS. So the review on the BCA Tracker 2 is very good this is a good site for reviews. They are solid basic transceivers.
You dont really need to go to the extreme with a Mammut Pulse but if you want to spend the extra go for it. Have you had any avalanche training previously?
I have the Mammut Pulse. It’s great and I would definitely recommend it if it is available to you and within your price range.
I have also been recommended the Tracker II. Seems to be very commonly used in Whistler and it’s also what I used during my avalanche course. The instructors recommend the Tracker II as it’s very simple and easy to use, while still being very effective for finding victims. You don’t want to overly complicate things because during those crucial minutes, you need to have a clear and simple plan. Don’t buy a complicated transceiver unless you will be getting the proper training on how to use it. Training is key; do a course and see what your instructors recommend. And don’t forget to practise rescue scenarios with your backcountry group.
I have the Tracker II and I highly recommend it
My Ortovox F1 Focus beacon is soooooooo old school these days.
I have the tracker 2 too.
Another +1 on the BCA gear.
I have a DTS.
I’ve got a BCA Tracker 2 - very easy to use, but hopefully I don’t need to!
(Found heaps o’ people @ King Bell restaurant!! Was going nuts!!!)
Make sure you take your battery out f your trackers over summer - you don’t want them to leak!
Ok thanks guy looks like i will get this one. Will more than likely do some basic avy training in qtown
So just a heads up incase you have a gopro on and you searching for someone, it doesn’t cause anything when you just receiving I hope
You mean “transmitting”, right? If you’re “searching for someone”, you’re “receiving”.
Yeah yeah my bad transmitting
