Newbie Snowboard Buyer - Equipment Questions!

Hello Everyone!!

I’m 168cm & 125 -130 lbs (weight fluctuates a lot). I’ve been boarding for two years (via rental) and I’ve decided to purchase a board recently!

I wanted to keep my setup under $400 and I managed to purchase the following equipment for a total of $305 during a snowboarding clearance sale via recommendation of the shop’s sales associate (not a snowboarding speciality shop but a sports equipment store). Everything has a 30 day return policy but product stock is low now. However upon talking with a friend, I realized I may have purchased some of the wrong things.

Burton Citizen Bindings (http://ca.burton.com/womens-citizen-snowboard-binding/275235,default,pd.html) ~ $80
K2 Lunatique 151 (http://www.evo.com/outlet/snowboards/k2-lunatique-snowboard-womens.aspx) ~ $165
K2 Plush Boots (http://k2snowboarding.com/boots/plush-1213) ~ $60

Everything is still separate (board & bindings) in the case I need to exchange something.

Here are my questions:
- Is 151 too long for me or is it ok? I only plan to go up and down a hill and not do jumps and such. I also know a long board also helps with stability at faster speeds.
- My friend also told me that Burton bindings are ‘unique’ in the sense they may not be able to be mounted to my board and may be too narrow for K2 boots. Does anyone have experience with this?
- I was also considering purchasing Burton Coco Boots or K2 Boots w/ the Boa system - would you recommend these over the K2 Plush boots I currently have?

If there are any other concerns that you experienced purchasers may have please let me know too!

Thank you in advanced!!! smile

Im gonna let the pros (other members with a lot more experience) clear all this up for you in no time but heres what i know if the boot fits and is confortable then you good there,  your bindings are fine they are a disk setup so the 4x4 setup on your board with mount just fine your friend was probably thinking of the Burton channel system so you good there.  If the boot and binding work together meaning if the boot fits the binding you good.  Last part is the board dont know too much about it but K2 makes some sick boards so i think you be fine its a rocker/flat/rocker so it will be a somewhat laid back ride but that might be just you looking for as for size might be a little too big i would say a 146 would be great for you.

Help that somewhat helps grin

yep, if the boots are comfy.. Then that’s awesome.. And if they fit into the bindings.. They will be fine..

I’m 166cm and 140(or there abouts) pounds..

I ride a 145cm roxy olliepop.. But I got it for groomed runs and freestyle.. Also to get into the park a bit.. ( I learnt on a 153cm..). So if your not in the park and just doing normal runs 151 shouldn’t be a problem..

** I’ve only been boarding 2 years and im hardly an expert.. Just going off what I’ve learnt/ be taught from my bf

I’m sure one of the more experienced guys or girls will have a better more detailed answer smile

thank youu for the reply! that is a relief to know that my bindings will work with my board. i know the rule of thumb with the top of the board to the chin isn’t very valid but the board when standing upright falls right below my chin. does that make any difference? a 146 I feel will fall at around my collarbone/shoulder/neck - would that be too short?

thank youuu for your response! did you find it difficult to learn on a 153?? where does the 145 fall when you stand up? like i read somewhere a board shouldn’t fall shorter than your shoulder/collarbone - do you know how valid it is?

its a relief to know that 151 may be good! cause i think the store is out of stock of the k2 lunatique and i quite like the design and read great reviews about it.

thanks to both of you for replying! is there anyone else who can put some input? it would be much appreciated! smile

The whole chin, nose length test is not a accurate way to pick a board length, weight is more of a factor, more then all else its about what your intentions are for the board ,  park= you wanna go shorter, free ride/ pow : go longer, also camber profile is also something To consider…. But ill let the ladies give you more of a idea on the proper length should be for you or atleast a closer guess. Just for a quick reference my boards vary 9 cm in lenght from park-pow now that’s bigger then usually difference but average I would say 4-5 cm so you really not going too big in my opinion with a 151 but that’s just me.
