Do we have another offical name change???
Are you referring to me OG mwhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
OG doesn’t have quite the same ring about it…
I think Old Girl has a nice ring to it
Oh, NBG is awesome
OG is afro american slang for Ol’ Gangster, that and Ozgirl together is pretty damn funny in my book!
Ice T, Original Gangsta
Finally got a chance to watch this vid.
It seemed to drag on a little, not badly - just enough for my attention to waiver.
Advice on what board for a beginner is good but as others mentioned; needs more detail, like if your 100kg you’ll need a BIG, THICK, WIDE board and you’ll never ride a small “pro” model or; if your a 40kg grom - a 6’ minimal will be more than enough to start on.
The other standout thing worth a mention is the footage used. Showing a pro ripping while he talks about learning to surf is a major juxtaposition. It would have been nice to see examples of how a learner board is expected to ride. Even Slater would struggle to get a 7’ softboard to top turns like whats shown and most people will
neverachieve a serious top turn.
At the end of the day people surf because it’s fun and awesome connecting with the ocean, not to become professional or to do big power turns.
The biggest thrill and most important move is just getting to your feet and trimming on a wave.
That’s what surf schools aim to achieve, with a first timer they don’t focus on paddling (they do cover it), turning, duck diving or board selection (they provide the board) etc… if you struggle with paddling (or any part) they will take you out and push you into waves so you can stand up and feel the thrill.
I think BW LTS series should show some stoked learners standing on their first waves while the basics of board selection etc are covered instead of seeing what a lifetime of being in the water and commitment to professional sport can achieve.
