Better late than never mate, dunno what your background is like but if you’re rank beginner with no surf awareness spend some time learning to bodysurf first, the lessons learned in how to read waves will be invaluable wjhen you move to standing up.
You going to loearn to surf Mud?
Yeah mate, that’s the plan! I put my daughter through the Surfing Aus Vegemite Surf Groms intensive 2 x 4 hour program a few weeks ago and it was really good. I was helping out in the class and have also done a single lesson myself. We’ve bought a foamie for the kids and steamers for all of us (had spring suits before). We’re pretty limited with time so it will be a slow process, but yeah, I want to get there when time permits.

I spent a fair bit of time in the surf as a kid, body surfing and riding surf mats.
Surf mats, soooo old school.
Remember your mat folding in half under you and getting drilled??

yeah! especially the getting drilled part haha! it’s quite remarkable how resilient you are as a little kid. I also used to be a competitive swimmer, but I went for my first proper swim in about 10 years yesterday and I’m afraid all trace of swim fitness has gone - could barely do 100m without puffing.
Mini Shred at the ripe old age of nearly 10, can out swim me by 100 to 1
But I am brave enough to jump off things way higher than she will….......... at the moment anyway

THIS! (by this I mean the parts and pieces to make the two balance bars)
So I finally snapped I couldn’t handle all the Japan/Canada/Sweden talk anymore so I made finally made myself some balance bars. (shout-out to Snowboard Addiction for the idea) All stickered up thanks to Drift and BW.
Just need to make the ‘box’ a bit higher and get some brackets to make the ‘rail’ a bit more stable, but its’ pretty sweet apart from that!
