Trip Report: Mount Nelse/Baker Spur 7-8 August 2010
A crew of 7 of us headed out to Edmonson Hut on Saturday morning on a beautiful sunny day with no wind. We got to the hut dumped our main packs and tucked into an early lunch.
After lunch we skinned and snowshoed out to the summit of Mt Nelse and hit the southeast face of Nelse. The cover was slightly crusty up top but got softer as we got into the lower slopes.
We then traversed over to the more easterly faces of Mt Nelse, to hit the tree lined gullies. The snow under the trees was still pretty soft and deep, but not quite as steep as the main Nelse slopes, you had to pick your line through the trees and keep up you speed.
We then hit eastern face Baker Spur for a run back down to the hut.
On Sunday morning we hit the main gully down Baker Spur. The snow didn’t melt and freeze over night and so the snow was still soft and holding up well.
Here are some pics and a vid from Baker Spur on Sunday morning.

PS Keep an eye out for the YETI who lives in Edmonsons Hut, he’s got a nasty temper!!!
