What makes us human?

Avatar

Or on a more serious note arguing that we are not the smartest animal on the planet is like arguing that water is not wet or the sky is not blue, all the going information on top of what can be seen with our own eyes and felt with our own hands might tell us something but there’s always someone wanting to be different for the sake sake of it.  With that said you never have to be right or wrong it just depends upon how well you argue your point, point in case the judicial system.  Discussing this type of stuff is part of what makes us human, animals or everything else apart from us generally lives lives based upon baser functions such as finding food, trying not become food, finding a mate, rearing offspring and most of what they do is happenstance surrounding these motivations.

We still live in a structured “Survival of The Fittest” Society!!!!!

Money and Power is the thing that dictates who is more likely to succeed, but its a very similar concept!!!!!

We are as territorial as a pack of Wolves, we work in communities like bees, and we breed like rabbits!!!!!

And we all do this in order to ensure the existence of our own species!!!!!

We might think that what we are doing is of great importance, but its no different than what a snail does in the backyard veggie patch, in order to ensure the continuation of its own kind!!!!!

Every living thing on the planet does this by instinct, and not desire!!!!!

Including us!!!!!

I sometimes wonder if animals are able to appreciate beauty.  For example, you often see pics of some beast gazing out over the edge of a cliff or something.  Is it thinking “Nature is so beautiful sometimes”, or “Where the f*ck are all the antelope for me to eat?”

That’s something that we’ll most likely never really know!!!!!

But they definitely posses other emotions like us, such as fear, rejection, affection etc etc!!!!!

We can’t even fully understand what goes on in the minds of our own species, yet you seem sure that we know that we are the only animal that has feelings, thoughts and emotions?????

There was a list of things I said we had, not in completion of course, and I said it would be impossible to name one other species that also owns all the same traits. I never said we were the only animal that had thoughts and emotions, only that none other possesses the same traits in entirety, and mental capacity as we do. No other animal can reason.

Are you comparing a mound of dirt built up and dug out by mites to a man made sky scraper with electrics and pluming? The architecture, sophistication and knowledge that goes into each are on completely different levels.

You shoot yourself in the foot by bringing up longevity - Look how much we have accomplished in such a short time. We have gone from dwelling in caves to sailing and then to building and flying planes. Other species have been doing the same thing for hundreds of thousands of years while we have conquered earth, sea and sky… hell, and we’ve even been to the moon. Any other species capable of this?

I’m unsure how we lose in population, for I didn’t see it as a requirement for being evolutionary superior or more intelligent - Morality is not in question in what you originally stated. We most definitely won’t be the last living thing. Micro-organisms will. It’s fact that the smallest things in the world, though may not have a long life span, but their species will and have lasted the longest throughout time.

A Termite Mound functions without the need for electricity and plumbing, and all by design!!!!!

It keeps the termite larvae at a constant temperature by design and position!!!!!

Something that has taught humans how to build their own structures more efficiently!!!!!

If I shot myself in the foot, you must have inadvertently done the same with your longevity statement too?????

If Micro-Organisms have been around since day squat, and you also reckon that they’ll be here till the end, then surely they are a pretty dominant force in the world we live in?????

And while flying to the moon might be considered an achievement, I’m not quite sure what benefits it really brings to the planet that which we live on?????

And in consideration to Humans being able to inhabit every part of this planet, you’ll find that while we can live in some pretty amazing places, we can’t physically take over every facet of this big blue ball!!!!!

The space program has brought us many, many benefits that you would use every single day.

Fry: “Hey, as long as you don’t make me smell Uranus.” *laughs*
Leela: “I don’t get it.”
Professor: “I’m sorry, Fry, but astronomers renamed Uranus in 2620 to end that stupid joke once and for all.”
Fry: “Oh. What’s it called now?”
Professor: “Urectum. Here, let me locate it for you.”
Fry: “Hehe, no, no, I think I’ll just smell around a bit over here.”
