Lance Armstrong admits to using drugs
Is it wrong to say I gained a bit of respect for Lance after watching it?
Not even a little bit.
I’ve got $10 on that every single cyclist in le tour is taking performance enhancing drugs. Lance didn’t take them to get an advantage over the competition, he said it himself, he took them to level out the playing field.
I’ve got another $10 on that 99.9% of Olympic medalists since 1965 have taken performance enhancing drugs. Or even before.
Take a look at the list of high level athletes that have been done for doping. Only 4 athletes who have been on the top of the podium of the 100m since 1988 have clean records. Carl Lewis, Linford Christie, Marion Jones, Ben Johnson, Tim Montgomery, Ato Boldon, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce just to name a few, who don’t have clean records.
I used to be a professional sprinter at international level. I can tell you now from first hand experience, performance enhancing drugs are not viewed badly or frowned upon at all in the industry, by atheletes, trainers, rivals. No one. It does not matter if he took performance enhancing drugs, he did not gain any competitive advantage over his competitors. They were all on it, too. The use of performance enhancing drugs is so rampant, it isn’t funny. I’ve beaten and been beaten by competitors who take performance enhancing drugs. It doesn’t matter. That’s what it is. It is accepted.
To protect the sport, every athlete will condemn him and the use of drugs. If they do not, they will be taking a huge pay cut very very soon. Just as they’ve done before, they will do it again.
Lance had to admit to it. He was under criminal investigation for 2 years. He doesn’t want what happened to Marion Jones to happen to him. I have a feeling that since they are trying to bring him down, he is retaliating by bringing the whole sort down. How many people are going to watch le tour this year since the greatest cyclist of all time just reveal he took performance enhancing drugs? Not as many as last year.
Lance Armstrong, Usain Bolt, Michael Jordan, Florence Griffith Joyner, Carl Lewis ... they all belong in the same company. They’re all some of the greatest athletes of all time. Drugs don’t matter. Nothing does.
Flame me as much as you want. The general public reaction shows how damn ignorant everyone is. It makes me damn sick. Lift the wool from your eyes people.
