So I took out the board for the first time today. First of all it definitely ride a bit different than the one I demoed in spring. This one feels more like a cambered board, and the rocker is less compared to the one I demoed. Mine is also stiffer than the demo board.
The flex is pretty stiff, I would say it’s stiffer than my T.Rice. It’s pretty hard to hold a tail press or do butters (with my super limited buttering skills). Since it’s a directional board, the tail is stiffer than the nose. It’s awesome for carving and turning though. I would say the T.Rice is easier to turn but this one holds an edge better and just carves better overall. On hardpack conditions it’s for sure better than my rice. Today was mostly a park day so I just lap the small park just hittin the small jumps and flat box. I can load the camber on this and it popped higher than my rice on the jumps. This board is also really stable at high speeds. It is also really damp, I can’t feel any vibrations whatsoever on hardpack/icy conditions and charges through small bumps/chopped up snow on the runs (not moguls).
What I really like about this board too is that it tracks straight when you flat base it or 1 foot, where as my t.rice is kinda squirrely. It is also a bit heavier than my rice. I’m more comfortable popping/ollieing off rollers on this board too. Usually on my rice I kinda get a bit sketchy when trying to ollie of a roller after doing a turn (e.g. heelside > flatbase > ollie), but not with the YES. I really like with the camber extending past the inserts and quite a lot of it (unlike the other YES model with really minimal camber), you can feel the rebound out of turns and it lands great of the jumps. Tried a few turns switch (not that I can ride switch well at all), felt a bit weird since it’s a directional board.
Also to note my 156 has 3mm of taper compared to 2mm of taper on the other sizes. Not sure why this is.
Another pic of the rocker profile (more pictures can be found on the post your quiver thread)
I also tried my friend’s 155 YES Great Beauties. I didn’t really like that much. I think part of it is that the edges are a little bit dull and also I’m not feeling the asym. sidecut.
well, most of the differences you found were just the difference between camber and rocker
That’s true haha.
Pretty much what the main part of each different Hybrid is!!!!!
Sounds like a good board.
The board looks very much a camber board. The rocker is just subtle nose and tail?
Yeap I think so, there’s a bit more rocker at the nose than tail though. The diagram on Nidecker website shows 7mm rocker at the nose, 3mm camber, and 3mm rocker at the tail. I emailed some pictures to YES and the rep replied it’s correct so I don’t know. The one I demoed felt a bit different than mine. Maybe Amine can confirm this again? I saw another guy post a picture of his on another forum and it looks like his has more rocker than mine.
@Dan83: Here’s some more pics of the camber profile Dan.
that sure looks like camber to my untrained eyes. The rocker clearly does not start very close to the binders, unless you have a very narrow stance.
I have a 21 inch stance. But you can see the camber does not go all the way to the contact point. Seems like it’s camber to flat to subtle rocker. I hope Amine can confirm this.
edit: looking at your first pic it looks like burton’s s-rocker, on both the tip and tail. it looks like camber to flat to regular nose but when you weight it, the tips will rise up.
looks good!
. . .when you weight it, the tips will rise up.
Yep, this.
. . .looks good!
THIS.
@gamblor and chucky: The tip does rise up when I weight it. It’s just weird because according to Nidecker’s diagram its supposed to have 7mm rocker at the front (freeride camrock) and I remember when I demoed the board it definitely had more rocker than this. Maybe they changed it a bit when they move to Elan?
Just for reference, here are some pics of my Tasman (camrock) and Signal OG (regular camber). You can see the rockered tips on the Tasman start way earlier than your PYL - around the 2nd widest mounting holes.
Tasman/camrock on top, Signal/camber on bottom
Tasman on top, Signal on bottom (note the shadows)

well, just remember, Yes is made by Nidecker, and just like Jones and Slash, their quality is a bit dodgy sometimes. My local shop has had loads of Yes warrantys. I would try and find another pyl in a shop to compare the flex, since yours is different to the site
@gamblor: Thanks a lot gamblor! Lookin forward to it. If it’s pressed or whatever I really don’t want to send the board back because I just got it.
