So there is plenty to bugger up. It does its thing day in day out without trouble. If there is a bugger up, most of the time its just a matter of shutting down the system and rebooting. Its all been running since 2008.
2007. iMac still going strong, as is the other stuff. During that time, had the Dell, Sony, netbooks by the masses, all of which run for a bit then fail. For me it’s not about what’s the best out there, it’s what works for me, day in day out, without me having to think about it. I went to high school with a slide rule, and then a simple calculator. Scientific Calculators came later. Programming was done on punch cards. Really, I don’t want to have to much around with programming, or the operating system stuff, though it’s pretty easy to sort if you need to.
If a better product for us comes by, hey, we’ll give it a go! but for now Apple does the trick
I admittedly had to pay ~ 1/3 more than what an equivalent quality branded PC at the time . . .
Sharing similar parts/specs does not necessarily make them “equivalent quality” - and the inability to natively boot into and run the Mac OS definitely doesn’t make their worth “equivalent”.

Haha, same! I did my first programming on punch cards too!

It really would depend on what you do on your computer though, wouldn’t it?

Besides, “equivalent quality” and “equivalent worth” can differ greatly.
Yeah, like a laptop made from gold. It costs heaps but is basically useless.

I bet I can give you a fix for the iMac and explain whats happened;
A little corrosion has caused the audio jack to think it permanently has something plugged in. Try jimmying it with a tooth pick or even a squished paper clip to get it to respond like it’s been unplugged (you can even try using a audio male plug and give it a good old pumping). The extreme option is to roll up some emery paper and try to clean the connection.
I had the same issue with my macbook pro. I didn’t get it fully resolved since it was intermittent and most of the time either had it connected to my home system, car stereo or headphones. On the rare occasion I needed the internal speakers I would use the pumping method or a toothpick or just give up.
If it works, and does what you want it to and your happy with the product and price, then really who cares???
I have a PC for gaming and the option to upgrade each component (eg CPU, psu, ram, etc) and it works for what I do.. (gaming/ photo and video editing)
I also have a Toshiba laptop ( but its about 4-5 years old) and I have a windows surface tablet and Nokia Lumia 920 (also windows) I just prefer this because its what I’m used to and everything connects to each other..
same as azz has all apple stuff as its all compatable.. (and also what his family are used to..?)
in saying that I have an iPod for the snow for music.. I don’t have anything against Apple.. I’ve just always used windows and find it easier for me.. And like the options that come with it etc..
so each to their own.. Why bother arguing???

It can.. but I mostly fix my own stuff as he is too busy with clients work ( which is fair enough..) and I do know how to Google.. lol!! Worst case I call him and ask for help.. he usually tells me over the Phone how to fix it.. but its mainly networking problems etc,
What hoz said really. I have a custom PC at home which is about 3 years old now. I love being able to chop and change parts in and out of my box at a whim (recently installed this baby)
i mostly use it for games but it can do everything, even acts as my media centre. i also have an iPhone 4s/ipad 3 and they’re perfectly fine for what I use them for. I also have a lenovo laptop, but that’s work issued.
personally, i prefer custom PC set ups for exactly that, customisation and uniqueness, my box is exactly that, MY box1 =) And when I go to a LAN party, it stands out. BTW my iPhone was a b’day gift from the missus and the iPad was paid for using frequent flyer points (thanks work!)
(you can even try using a male plug and give it a good old pumping)
