Most modern car platform that are still on the road are based on a 30’s design. Clutch|brake|accelerator pedals, steering wheel, gear stick and hand brake in the center, front engine/rear drive.
There aren’t many 30’s beetles still running and their design changed many times right into the 70’s.
But YES, the basics stayed the same and the engine layout is still used in the most performance orientated consumer vehicles today - Subaru.
And one of the most advanced supercars Porsche.
I own a 1968 VW.
