40! Is the new 20’s I hear.
You heard wrong. 
According to TV funeral plan adverts; life now begins at 50.
I was always of the opinion life bagan at 40 - that’s what all the Hallmark cards said at my dads 40th.
Us genX’ers really don’t fit anywhere (hence the “X” title).
No doubt when we hit 50, it will be the new 25! I’m sure Kelly Slater will still be contending world titles (he’s 6months older than me).
At 30 they said it was the new 20. If you take a poll of the people in the surf, skate park or lift line you’ll be surprised at how many +40’s there are.
You need to be +65 these days to even look “aged” within “the industry”. Even then the +65’ers are setting the bar for style (surf and snow) - these are the guys that progressed our sport to the modern way we practice them.
I’ll say this;
If you don’t want to get old, follow your dreams and love hard.
Working in this industry will keep you young (mostly because the drugs and alcohol weed out the weak).
From my view point it’s those that stress about money and their earning potential that get old sooner.
Having a kid will add 10years initially but long term they will push you to keep getting on the play equipment. Just don’t stress about school fee’s, putting food on the table or buying the latest gameboy! Raise them right and they will opt for new snow gear, insist on expensive skate bearings and prefer a ski trip next year rather than private school or X-box.
