JIB BOARD!

Avatar

So Kyle wants a new board to add to my quiver. I currently have brand new 162 Capita black snowboard of death which is sick for powder / carving & an 159 Arbor Westmark which is used for basic park & teaching but its getting pretty old now its probs seen over 100 days riding. So i’m feeling its time to get a total jib board!

Specs im currently looking for are - soft (flex about 2-3), size about 156-158, twin, rocker or flat.

I’ve sussed out a few so far such as;

158 Arbor Draft - rocker, twin, flex 3
The 2013 design looks pretty sick which is a positive.

156 Rome Artifact rocker - flat/rocker, twin, flex 3
The only negative is the design is a bit lame.

156 Saloman Salomonder - flat, twin, flex 3
Design is pretty sick, one of my mates has the exact same board so not too sure if i’d get it.

If anyone has rode any of these boards & has any feedback that would be sweet. Or any other board suggestions that are similar to the specs would be appreciated.

Out of those three, I’d choose either the Arbor or the Rome, as unlike Salomon, they’re not ski brands.

Support snowboarding.

Arbor Draft is a sick board. My husband has one and he loves it. I’ve ridden it a bit too and I love it as well….enough that I’ve got the 150cm 2012 model on its way to me as I type!

Heard good things about the Artifact, too & that was something else I considered.

I wouldn’t get a Salomon either, but that is because as also a skiing brand, it kinda loses a lot of its appeal. My own personal brand bias.

Rossignol district.

Forget whether they started as ski brands, if the gear is right then get it.

Forget whether they started as ski brands . . .

It’s a personal choice. Some people have integrity, some don’t.

Snowboarders should support genuinely dedicated snowboarding brands, not ski companies just looking to cash in while the going’s good.

rossignol sponsors Xavier De Le Rue, which is good thing for the sport. In fact, they have brought up a hell of a lot of influential riders. Anyone heard of Tadashi Fuse, Jeremy Jones or Travis Rice?

Anyways, since everyone is throwing ideas out:

Burton Nug, Process cambered, parkitect, anything by Smokin

The big ski companies have been doing it for a while, so they’re not really trying to cash in while the going’s good. Salomon has been doing snowboards since 1995, K2 started in 1988 (how’s that for OG?), Rossignol - since the late 80’s. and Quiksilver, who owns Mervin, actually owned Rossi from 2005 to 2008

If you want to hate on big non-snowboard companies trying to cash in, look no further than Nike and Addidas.

I just brought mr.h0z the libtech burtner box scratcher in 147, for xmas (his smallest board so far) got it from cherri cherri pow pow in jindabyne.. Had it shipped to us for $20.. All up cost me like 450.. Which is cheap for a libtech.. And they have pretty awesome graphics.

this will go with his other park/jump board, stepchild pow sucks 2012, in 151 cm and his other lib boards, t.rice pro art of flight 2012, 153cm, and the limited EDT. Attack banana 2011 also 153cm

(he does weeks and weeks of looking into boards and the tech and reading reviews and comparing.. ( although the art of flight was a suprise.. But I already knew he wanted it.. Haha)

hoz, his board size is all over the place any reason for that ?

The 153s are his mountain/powder boards.. And stepchild is only 2cms smaller as its his park board.. And the box scratcher he got that size cos he jumped on my 145 roxy olliepop and did a few jumps for a laugh/to see what it was like.. And he fell in love with it.. So he went a bit smaller than normal.. This will be his main park/jib board now..

him and a friend were even talking about getting either a chicks board or a kids larger board.. (140-145) CMS to just muck around in the park on..
but he saw the box scratcher.. Looked into the into on it.. Talked to a few people in store about it and fell in love..

also his about average height and heaps thin.. So he can get away with the smaller board..  ( his 178cms and about 55-57kgs) lol!

Integrity? Do you hold yourself in a higher regard because you buy from brands who established themselves late and started out in Snowboards? If any of those brands existed 30 years ago they would have been making Skis too.

Do you hate on Libtech for originally being a Snowboard Brand who progressed to making Skis, or is it okay to go from supporting Snowboard to Board and Ski, just not from Ski to Board?

Word is that Nike helped the Helgason’s kick off Lobster. They’ve also put out some amazing boots in the past few years. I wouldn’t say they are ‘cashing in’ more than any other company in the snowboard industry.

Why so much hate if the brands are putting out quality gear and supporting riders? Boo hoo if they originally made Skis and have an unbiased view, why can’t they support both sides of the industry?

Lanox, I wouldn’t consider 147 to 153 “all over the place”. I’ve gone from 152 K2 WWW up to a 156MW Rossi District, and tomorrow I’m getting the 150 DC Ply.

well, he’s got it covered now with that 147, but if he wanted a smaller board, the answere was easily be a nug/root/harvest/super hero. As small as kids boards, but made for adults

I don’t get the hate on any company that wants to add to the mix that is snowboarding?????

Any brand that is in the industry don’t do it solely for the love!!!!!

Of course they are all in it to make some coin from it, just as we all go to work in order to make enough money in order to do the things we love!!!!!

If you had the option/chance to make extra money doing something different than you currently do, is it wrong for you to do so just because you weren’t a part of it from it’s inception?????

I love the fact that I have so many choices when it comes to gear!!!!!
