ah, i see….
i didnt really think of that, the only reason i put that sinker in there is just to balance the weight little bit….
but never really though of it 2 much.
It just reduces a lot of wrist strain. Even though it ends up heavier in total, its easier to hold cos the weight is at your hand, not 1m out. But see how you go with out at first
So easy to make yourself:
1. Get a ski pole - Shops will have plenty of old ones lying around for free.
2. Cut with hacksaw to desired length - If you don’t have a saw go to Bunnings and ‘test’ one out.
3. Flatten the last 40mm in a vise - if you don’t have a vice…as above.
4. Carefully tape a go pro mount to the flat, end section of the pole. Use the good stuff sparkys use, Nitto I think.. about $3.
Total cost: $3
On the lever thing, you’d be surprised how much effect it can have on your balance. I had some giant stacks doing park stuff holding the pole.
Yea, with my home made, you definitely feel the difference.
Hopefully the go-pole will be much easier.
I’ll eventually move this thread to Photography and Filming, so if you can’t find it, that’s where it will be.
If the “incident” hadn’t occurred all this information was well documented with detailed pictures in Photography and Filming.
Mizu built an extendable pole made from the hardware store 2 years ago for his GoPro. I’ve been making PoleCams for 4 years and built various mounts and heads to accomodate different cameras.
Forget a hacksaw to shorten a skipole. You can snap them at the desired length - they don’t bend, pinching it in a clamp will cause the aluminium to crack unless it’s heated.
AJ2theC I’m guessing your points are theory not practice? but they are all on the right track - genius thinking. Another good thing about skipoles is with the right heating you can bend them to avoid having any pole in shot.
Counter weights are important.
Straps look ugly in shot.
A good ergonomic handle makes a hell of a difference.
You need to be able to rotate, swivel and pitch the camera. Having it extend is an added bonus.
Tj Not even an enquiry to see what I had for you.
Oh god here we go again…
This post was just meant to be a guide for a basic go pole that is a lot bettere then what I have seen ppl do…
And it was done well Lanox.
Made the mistake of buying the stupid 10 buck ones off ebay
the problem with ebay one is you have to buy a monopod adaptor as well and the pivot ball moves too much
tried to remedy it with super glue but after awhile that doesnt work either
Thanks lanox
This build looks much sturdier
well done mate…. looks good.
