Getting to the pointy end of things now!!
Just booked a different flight to Seattle to get me to Finney’s birthday celebrations!
Just booked my bus across the boarder to Vancouver too!
I also just paid 4 euro to reserve a seat on one of my trains in euorpe! Can’t book the second leg as it goes into another country. I have to book that at a train station. I got a eurorail pass but thought i would reserve a seat as well since i will be travelling on the last weekend before Christmas! The website was converted to english for me but the booking is in german!
Must remember the phrase “Sprechen Sie Englisch?”
Wooo hoooo Just checked in!
Yeeeeeeeeeee hah!
Safe Travels oz!!!!!
Hi all,
Sorry for the radio silence but i have found it is hard to write epic posts on the andriod.
I have comendered the computer in the reception area (god help anyone who wants help) You will also have to excuse all spelling errors as the european keyboard is throwing me and spell check is going rife with my english!
So I made it here safe and sound. For some reason I hated the first plane flight. Felt like it went on forever - maybe because i didnt want to sleep so figetted and fussed the whole way. Got off the plane all hot and sweaty - when did planes become overheated?
I paid for lounge access at hong kong airport and got some food a shower and 15min massage - which was just what i needed.
The second (longer flight) was much better. I was exhusted by this time as it was 2.30am SYD. I skipped the meal and took some drugs and sleep for a few hours. We landed in Frankfurt at 5.15am and I manged to find the long distance train station after navigating the airport, the shopping mall and the 2 different train station. I will say that even though i did not need it on the stinking hot planes I was thankful for my BW hoodie in my hand luggage as the train station platform was freezing!!!
Speaking of hand luggage even though they didn’t weigh it on check in they did at the gate. There was one woman making a hell of a fuss and I was super polite about it and it turns out the didn’t care how much it weighed in general they just didn’t want it all in one bag so i had to carry the ski boots onto the plane over my shoulder. I put them back in my Flight Deck though before stowing in the overhead locker!
So i found my carriage and my seat but was puzzled when the seat was facing backwards, but the train wasn’t full so i just sat in the opposite, forward facing seat. But turns out it was correct because after Frankfurt station the train went back in the other direction!
Also found my next train which brought me to Schladming! I was pretty excitted when the sun finally rose that there was more than a dusting of snow on the ground! It had been snowing all night and all day. After dumping my bags with my friends we went out to run some errands, including picking her daughter up from boarding school. No matter how many times I have done it I still can’t get over driving 100km an hour on freewys COVERED in snow!
Interesting side note. Last night her daughter went out clubbing in town. Turns out in Austria 16yo can drink beer and wine. Not hard liqour though!
So on my first night here the only other guests were a mother and her two sons. both (11 and 13 respectively) are sponsored snowboarders. And yesterday they were asked to ride in a comp which was run by one of their sponsors (blue tomato a surf/snow/skate store) They are pretty impresive kids! (I posted a link to their youtube channel in social) I told them about boardworld and showed them Oi Mate The best of. Of course they were stunned we had snow. They eldest had broken his foot though and was out until late Feb at the earliest. So only the 11yo competed. But I ened up watching for a bit, but i never saw/heard how he placed.
The snow was pretty amazing yesterday and no crowds! I was told that they all come from the 27th. But there were over 100 competiors in the slopestyle yesterday ski and board and juniors and open.
Last night my friend took us tobbganing. Even though I had been told it was 7kms long I didn’t expect what I saw! There was night skiing as well so even though we used a different track the mountain was pretty buzzing. So we grabed our toboggans and rode the gondola up the mountain. We rode the toboggans down the run a short distacne and stopped at a hutt bar for dinner and drinks. No instructions and no real brakes, you use your feet to steer and brake. After dinner we did the rest of the run down. Great fun! I got footage on the drift but its upside down! I know I can rotate but wont be able too until i come home.
For dinner I had a spaztle type pasta with melted cheese with onion and bacon! Glühwein and lots of Schnapps! See even though i manged to stay reasonable well during our winter i had started coming down with a cold the day before I flew out and of course it got worst. Apparently they don’t believe in cold and flu drugs. Apparently all i need is a lot of schnapps! I do feel better today so maybe there is something in that!
Which brings us to today - there is a bit of a r*!n event going on outside and so I have decided a rest day is in order. Will take some photo today I hope.
