Thanks h0z
this may sound pretty dumb…but our kit lens 18-200mm f3.5 IS .....is pretty awesome. It’s our basic go-to lens when we are.. at the beach, in the snow, at the river, in the boat… in fact anywhere “dangerous” . We have PLENTY of other lenses, excellent lenses with red lines on them , but this one lives on the camera. It’s had sand in it, lost a screw, been repaired, and I still love it. So you’re not getting that one!
Flip out screen is good… but somewhere else to break, get wet, dirt etc.
I love the Canon 7D, WAY more than the 50D, and no comparison with the 500D which we sold. It’s a pretty mean camera with a lot of features.
Everybody has there own likes and dislikes… get into a shop and try them out. Do you want to shoot JPEg or RAW? Combination?
Hi K2.
* Faster shutter speed. 60D shoots up to 1/8000th compared to 1/4000th on the 650D
extremely usefull when shooting an eclipse!
Don’t worry too much about weather sealing k2. The weakest link (where the lens enters the body) has the same lack of sealing whether it’s an expensive cam or a cheap one
I am glad you said that Gamblor. I was never concerned about weather sealing. I carted my SLR around for years in ski resorts.

That is good to know actually, Cheers mate.
And the eclipse comment went straight over my head not sure if its a piss take or serious

Thanks Tambo! Yeh, I was considering a single lens that covers that sort of range. Just wasnt sure if I wanted more range up too 300. Which is why I was wondering what others use for skate/snow.
In regards to Jpeg/Raw, mostly atm I just shoot Jpeg, but open to start doing both or just raw

If I interpreted it correctly he is say that at that speed there isn’t much difference!
half piss take. I did use the fastest speed on my dslr to take eclipse photos. Other than that, you won’t need 1/4000 speed
haha fair enough.
BTW, I dont wanna be one of these people
I did some window shopping today at CameraHouse and played with a heap of their range (I was in there 2hrs!)
I really liked the Sony DSLR cameras, they are weather sealed; the 99 and 77 are magnesium framed bodies.
Both very good things if you intend shooting in the snow. ^those two are pricey.
I also was impressed (but always have been but for the price!) by Sony Nex.
I preferred the new Nikon range over the Canon - but maybe it’s a personal preference, it was mostly how Nikon sat in my hand - probably comes from 10 years of handling Nikon.
I also discovered I like heavy camera’s and lcd viewfinders are easier to see with my failing eyes. Weight in cameras can be attributed to many rubber seals and sturdier frames.
Oh - I picked up a new term today - from the camera sales guru. It’s called MP Marketing Potential. And all cameras have it - the bigger the number the more likely they will sell.
Hi everyone! Just wanna thank you all for your tips and advice.
Ended up with a Canon 650D with a 18-55, 55-250 and 8mm fish eye.
Couldnt be happier with it all
Took your time to get back in the photography threads K2!?
Yeh, been a bit AWOL from the computer in general mate!
