I wouldn’t imagine the auto has the same feature as the manual as far as hill start mode goes yeah?
Not necessarily. My car has a DSG transmission and also has hill assist braking (which you can kind of trick by barely touching the brake pedal which results in rolling back before the clutch engages) Being from the same VAG family there’s a chance the Amarok could be a similar story.
hey azz, wanna sell me your rok? for 20k or less??
im pretty clear on all the spics and specs of difference such as fuel economy and what not, i just really really cant decide
hows about everyone finds what ute they think i should buy on carsales.com.au for under $18k
Azz when you say proper locker do you mean an air locker? As far as I was aware a mechanical locker wasn’t something that could be activated but more like an Eaton detroit locker or a Harrop Trutrac setup? I wouldn’t imagine the auto has the same feature as the manual as far as hill start mode goes yeah? Might havta go down to the veedub dealership and have a closer look at some point.
Yeah, like an air locker, but its activated by an electronic solenoid rather than air.
Some 4x4’s have lockers that use computer smarts to brake the spinning wheel, thus creating a locker effect…..... sort of.
Had an air locker in my old cruiser 60 series, bloody awesome bit of kit
The auto won’t have the hill start.
Since I put bigger tyres on lifted us 50mm higher, its heaps better up the bush.
Dylan…... in a word NO
Yeah, my Subie uses computer controlled engine drive/braking independently to all 4 wheels!!!!!
Near impossible to get the wheels spinnin!!!!! (near impossible)
Azz from what I understand the new Ranger has both, it has the ETCS thing which is the traction control style “locker” and it also has the electronically operated mechanical diff lock like you described above. Whatever I buy if I go through with it will cop a 2” lift and a one inch larger tyre fitment for that very reason. Have you had the Rok on the beach yet, how does it go?

My vote is on this: Best Ute Ever
No beach work yet. You can’t get on beaches in Vico…....... apart from the very last bit of the state, 10 hours or so from here :(
I have driven on river sand, which is pretty course. No dramas.
Its light, so should not be a problem.

Been looking at that, some decent prices for trendlines and highlines listed on there, I must admit I’m very interested. Had a quick visit to the VW dealer in Parra at lunch, they one auto there but he couldn’t find the keys so no test drive.
I actually almost had the decision to get a new car made for me on the way back to the office, some total Fwit just pulled out from the kerb without looking. If I hadn’t been on the ball and swerved onto the other side of the double yellows I woulda been hit in the front quarter and more than likely due to the corner and off camber road flipped onto my side. I didn’t realise Toyota Kluger drivers were up there with Camry drivers in that dept, must be a Toyota disease.
Deano I like this more.
Anyway where’s Dyldo and why hasn’t he made a decision yet, buy something already.
eerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr you’re a kiwi?
Nah, I’ve got to have ozgirl’s brother in law to come around and get the stickers off it!!!!!
