GoPro HERO 3
i used to work at jb for 5 years and it will always depend on the person you get to serve you, i used so sell stuff way below cost price and they dont give a crap, nobody checks their sales at the end of the day. It comes down to if the person cares about his job and after 5 yrs i stopped caring haha
they should match most prices if you pest them enough
Spoke to 2 salespeople at JB both in the camera department. (I was there as they opened the doors and pestered the crap out of every salesperson I could find).
Both in the camera department gave me different answers - Rick 
They don’t have GoPro in yet. Only one store in Sydney has one on the shelf. Lowest price they would give is $485.
Earlier I spoke to the GoPro warehouse - they were very antsy and almost rude. They have increased the rrp to $489 and “SurfEdition-Black” is also $489 but not available. Only Harvey Norman wont be supplied Black so JB’s supply is legit. The increase is “due to the GoPro invoices”. They also said no accessories have or are likely to arrive.
One salesperson said each store is allocated different numbers, the other said each store gets 12. The second sales person was more senior and seemed to know more about what was going on.
I asked about meeting competitor prices; was told only if it’s a shop in the local area and used Camera House (situated opposite them) as an example. Went to Camera House and hassled them for the best price - after half an hour got them down to $469 but pre-order only and they quoted the generic 1-2 weeks. When I rolled my eyes they went on about how poor GoPro distribution and suppliers are and even dropped the F-bomb in the rant.
I had wasted to much time doing leg work chasing GoProBlack so didn’t return to JB (who were now very busy anyway). I have 2 printouts of Black at $469 (or less) and a Camera House quote that I’ll return to JB with - my name is on the waiting list, on the sticky-notices and in the senior camera salespersons diary, who said she wont even be bothering to display the stock since she has 4 customers waiting for the stock to arrive.
JB also said their markup is around 10% - that’s about right.
The only products at JB worse are Apple.

I’ve always been happy with my JB HIFI purchases. I didn’t say JB don’t give good deals?
And if they are the only place that has gp3Black available 
The best I can do on gp3Black BEFORE XMAS is $570 - thats at $0 profit! (unless I score 1or2 from JB)
Got and email about 2 hours ago with my invoice and letting me know they have shipped my gopro 3 black!! Yeww! Should have it by Friday! =D
And spaz.. I got it for $482.30 ( that’s with shipping split between 3.. As I got 3 cameras..only one for me though)
Any pre-orders I take for shipments coming from the supplier will be $475+shipping.

One looks after the camera stores like Teds, Camera House etc, and the other looks after JB Hi-Fi and the surf and outdoor retailers. Somehow, one importer managed to get stock, and the other didn’t. You can imagine how pissed the retailers without stock are!
I’d been keen to hear some first impressions of the guys who managed to get hold of one!

Uh-huh. Fortunately he was able to find some more at other JBs in Melb yesterday and has one today, paid just under $485. There seem to be some other places that have a few eg. Peter Stevens motorcycles in Melb.

2 warehouses and 3 (maybe 4) distributors. It’s an absolute mess.
I’ve been looking at getting them sent from the states, from places that have stock - and there are plenty willing to sell and ship them.
With the huge markup here in oz (compared to US rrp) it makes the seller a good profit, add shipping - and the price is just below what we are expected to pay retail.
In the States they pay rrp $AU381 for black
If it wasn’t for customer loyalty to the brand I’m pretty sure the suppliers and retailers wouldn’t bother.
The middle man is certainly being ripped-off as are the retailers in Australia.
Given the strong $AU I speculate it’s a ploy to help US economy (yet another conspiracy-theory of mine) by forcing the $AU to be spent in the US market. All Aussie profit being lost to the USofA. Not that there is much profit anyway.
Some asking prices for gp3Black are topping $US700 - they must be getting it too because more and more sellers are increasing the asking price to that level.
The current selling price in Australia is near enough to $US520
Is GoProHero3Black really that good
