JAPAN 2012 / 2013

Just called the Air China number Humdinga found for me. Unfortunately we battled with a language barrier and in the end the answer was as clear as mud. I don’t think she knew what I was talking about with the sporting equipment clause on the website so I ended up with pretty much a blanket 158cm rule.

Looking into an agent who has the same flight available to see if they can chase it up for me.

Scoot option is looking like a possibilty other than the flight time. Can’t seem to work out how to add a stopover with them though.

Building a list of useless agents at the moment.

Flight Centre didn’t know and said I’d need to contact Air China until I got someone who would understand me.
BYOJet internet chat thought it was fine but got me to call there help line directly i.e travelscene which I did and got someone with attitude right off the bat who said she couldn’t help me until I had booked teacherboy
Air China got back to an email I sent attaching a PDF of excess baggage rates without actually answering the question from the dimensions I provided.

Places such as Travelscene and Flight Centre usually use Agents such as SkiMax and Deep Powder Tours to book their clients trips, so I’d cut out the middle man, and ring one of those places!!!!!

Just tell them that ya stayin with friends/family so ya wont be needin the accom portion, but ya need to find a carrier that will take ya board bag for the cheapest price, with maybe a stopover somewhere that they can book as well?????

Travelscene is the agent across the road from me who booked my flight to Japan.

No middle agent was used at all Mizu. ANd they price matched exactly what i got online but i paid the $40.

Try best flights DRC and ask for Madeline.

When I got quotes from Flight Centre for Whistler, they told me that they were waiting for conformation through Ski Max!!!!!

To save time/resources Agents that deal with a broad based clientele would use specialists!!!!! Pretty sure that Travelscene will be the same!!!!!

I could be wrong?????

Okay my agent is Travelworld NOT Travelscene (just found the original quote in my draw at work!)

They are in Chifley Plaza in the city.

Number is 9231 0606. Jessica Bennett is who i spoke to and pretty cluey/helpful. Although this was a year ago so she may not be there anymore.

Reading and appreciating all the advice. Not far off booking with Scoot (can get one for around $1300 but pretty long travel time)

how long ?

23hrs or so but that includes a 6hr stopover in Singapore. Good thing is I arrive in Tokyo at 10.30am giving me plenty of time to transfer to Myoko. Downside is it leaves early on my last day meaning I miss an extra day in Tokyo.

I’ve just called them and they have no baggage restrictions as long as it’s under weight (I’ll probably purchase 25kg each way) have just done a dummy order and once you add all the addons (meals, seat selection etc) it’s going to be just shy of $1400 I think I’m going to do it!

Wooooo hoooooo

Glad you got it sorted grin

I have a 5hr layover in HKG airport so will be paying to access one of these lounges http://www.plaza-network.com/ might be something you are interested in.

Yeah thanks oz, appreciate you making me take a second look at scoot as well.

From what I’ve read Singapore airport is one of the best to be stuck at. They appear to have facilities like gym/pool/shower/beds etc as well as lots of shops. Apparently it’s pretty easy to get into town as well but it’s going to be the equivelent of around 2am in Sydney so I don’t know how mobile I will be.

I’ll definitely be shattered by the time I arrive in Tokyo then begin my transfer to Myoko (another 4.30hrs) but hopefully I will be greeted to a comfy bed and lots of snow!

Yeah it’s actually around 14hrs actual flight time and broken up into a 6hr flight a 5hr flight and a 3hr flight which I actually don’t mind the sound of as I don’t mind getting out and having a walk around freshen up.

Definitely not optimal but leaves me with some more spending money. Haha yeah mate if I don’t manage to get Pow this time I give up smile
