Haters are more prominent! it’s easier to point out the competitors down falls (I know from experience).
It’s hard to admit the camera you (being anyone) owns is inferior - we all want the best or to believe we made the best decision.
I can and do own many brands of ActionCams. The advice I give isn’t based on fanboism.
I also own Canon and Nikon cameras. Canon, Sony and Panasonic video. VW and Ford cars (but am a Holden man). Apple and PC.
If one product works better I don’t base my advice on brand but experience, knowledge and what I believe is best for the client.
Well what has marketing got to do with quality of footage that a camera produces?????
Ill tell you!!!!!
Zip, zero, nada, nothing!!!!!
Just a request to keep this thread about the Drift Ghost. There’s another thread for the GoPro Hero 3 here: https://www.boardworld.com.au/forums/viewthread/8307/
Please keep content / discussion in this thread about Drift. Feel free to start a comparison thread if you wish.
Just putting this on the new page for easy reference.

Thanks for reposting that rider, I didn’t catch it at the end of the other page.
Video about mounting Drift and the mounts included with the HD Ghost
Apple make a good product ? I buy Apple!!!!!
Subaru make good product ? I buy Subaru!!!!!
Flux make good product ? I buy Flux!!!!!
GoPro make good product ? I buy GoPro!!!!!
It’s really that simple!!!!!
I don’t really give a rats arse if it’s flavour of the month or not!!!!!
If they make shit products, I would no longer buy them!!!!!
So by that logic until they start to make shit products you will buy those brands regardless of there being something else on the market that is better for the same money? I can’t think of anything really where I would buy based on brand alone, almost everytime I purchase something I am open to comparison (even snowboards Mizu) and review and then go with what suits me best in terms of price and function and style to a lesser extent. At the end of the day if you are able to justify your choices to yourself and your happy with the end result you can’t be too upset but I like to know I did the review and comparison to set my mind at ease in the first place.

I’ll always look at all of my options when I go for a new item, but my previous experience will always weigh heavy on the outcome!!!!!
For example, I’ve never had any drama with an Apple product, so why would I opt to walk away from something that I know works?????
I’m sure you have used the same surfboard shaper on numerous occasions, based purely on the fact that you trusted their product?????
When you purchased your SONY Cam recently, you most likely took a risk of sorts, when there was an enormous amount of positive feedback out there about DRIFT and GoPro Cameras, yet by comparison there would be so little yet available about the SONY????? Was there some trust in the Brand Name “SONY” perhaps????? Would you have still gone ahead with the buy if it was made by KOGAN for example?????
I’ll likely order DriftHD Ghost later today. Waiting on confirmation the first (limited supply) have arrived in Australia.
NthnBG wanted GP3Black, considered Ghost secondary but based on supply; opted for the Sony Actioncam.
Given that his priority was immediate availability and high FPS - Sony was the clear winner!
If Kogan offered HD@120fps at a competitive price and was available, the professional advisor he contacted would probably have advised he get it. Since Sony supply all lenses to the majority of brands worldwide, outside of a select few who manufacture their own - for specialised (action/headcam) performance issues. GoPro is not one. (GoPro rely on software to compensate).
Lens quality is what all pro photographers consider before body, (claimed) specs, censor or adjustments the software does before saving files.
It’s the ONLY consideration worth its weight.
Consumers are a different market.
With such a fine-line between quality in ALL the brands ANY of the manufacturers of ActionCams - are worth considering. IF they supply what they claim, when they claim it is available.
So Nthn made his purchase based on the fact that he chose not to wait!!!!!
Nothing wrong with that as he’s the one that has control over what he chooses to do!!!!!
I’ll say it again, I would prefer to wait and get what I want!!!!!
Each to their own!!!!!

Yeah I woulda gone with Kogan if it had the same specs, I almost went with one of their Plasma’s last time I needed a TV howveer I found a better deal on an LG elsewhere. I had some time constraints in that it was a Bday present from my girl and she wanted me to have it on the actual day. As Spaz mentioned the Sony was the clear winner in that it was available, it had the 120fps at 720p option that i wanted, it didn’t do 60fps at 1080p like the GP3 Black but then it occurred to me that when I share it online it’s obly ever going to be at 720 anyway. The Sony does 30fps at 1080 so real time footage isn’t an issue at that res and it was available now and for $348 so it didn’t break my girls bank. I actually refused to let her spend more then $300 and kicked in the extra $50 myself.
I used to get a lot of boards from Brett Warner but I don’t see the correlation and I don’t think it’s a good analogy. Apple, Sony, Libtech, Go Pro, Flux etc do not make individual custom products, shapers do and as such building a relationship with the one shaper can be very beneficial.
One thing that I thought about with Drift and Go Pro initially was the availability of purpose built mounts however upon closer inspection they all have the generic size female mounting thread so making your own stuff isn’t too much of a drama. I’m going to head downstairs at work at some point int he near future and see what the project managers have in the way of spare/old CCTV camera mounting hardware and scrounge some bit’s and pieces to make what I need.
Spaz was incredibly helpful as a sounding board in relation to knowledge base on the POV stuff and really helped make the decision.

You still had trust in the “brand”!!!!!
A major reason why you didn’t switch boards so easily, was that you knew that his boards worked for you!!!!!
It’s the same reason why I buy the products that I do!!!!!
It doesn’t mean that my brand allegiance is set in stone, but it plays a major role in my decision making!!!!!
You do see where I’m comin from yeah?????
I see what your trying to say but I still see the analogy is flawed. I had a board from him that worked, I went back to him and said hey I liked X, Y and Z about this board but I want you to make another one the same but with a slight change to Z. You cannot do that with most other products hence why it’s not the same thing. With that said I also had great boards from Wayne Lynch, Hayden Shapes and Al Merrick in that time period so it wasn’t an exclusive thing. although I still to this day think Brett makes great boards despite not having bought a board from him in 5 years plus.
Off topic a long way but I started with Simon’s, then had CHP’s, then I had a couple of Divisions, then I had a lot of Al Merricks, then I had a lot of Mick Button shaped Rusty’s then I went to Warners, a couple of Haydens and now I have an Al and a JS that I ride most of the time. I’m keen to get another JS actually.
What I’m getting at is the brand to me is only a small part of the comfort factor I have when choosing to buy a product. As witnessed by whats about a 20 year history above I swap brands all over the shop when it comes to boards for all sorts of reasons but usually becasue something else came along that more fully fit my needs at the time in one factor or another.
Anyway I will be interested to see how all the top of the line offerings from all three manufacturers compare, unfortunately I’m not going to be leaping off any tall buildings, pulling in at chopes or dropping into a 70 degree pitch in Alaska anytime soon so my footage may be a little on the boring side ha ha!
Lets go with another analogy then?????
You said before that you like Quicksilver Denim because you know what they’re like, havin previously owned the product before!!!!!
If you were to need another pair of jeans would you want/feel the need to go and at least try on the latest offerings from Quicky?????
Or would you deliberately choose not to opt for them again?????
Also, did this ever play a part in buying your 2nd, 3rd….... pair of Quicksilver jeans in the past?????
