Ahhhh, “Power Cycling”!!!!!

I thought that was a vigorous ride on a BMX bike?????

And they leave this genius in charge of heavy machinery at his work!  teacherboy

tongue wink

When they say “leave me in charge” of the heavy machinery, it’s kinda like they really just stand at a very safe distance when I’m at the controls!!!!!

Smart move!!

So I’ve been building the Japan stoke by watching a few Anthony Bourdain “No Reservations” episodes, The first one was in Tokyo and the second one in Hokkaido.

I’m all for throwing myself into the culture which may mean eating some unusual things i.e I ate horse last trip.

In both episodes he went to a Yakitori/Kushiyaki (essentially a variety of meats grilled) place which have me interested. Have any of you guys tried one of these out? The reason I ask is one of the specialties is very rare chicken and even raw chicken sushi. Obviously that’s a big no no here but I have to think the Japanese would do it right but I also don’t want to write off my trip with food poisoning.

Yes I have been to both Yakitori & Kushiyaki places!

The people I went with knew the not to order stuff!!

But yes if i was one to eat those things I would do it in Japan! They would do it right!

i went to a little yakitori joint in the non-niseko area village we stay in, it was as big as a cupboard and from what i understand the favourite yakitori place for the locals. It had about 30 japanese people crammed in there and both times i went there i drew the short noodle and got stuck on the end of the bench next to some drunken japanese men who told me great stories in not a word of english, it was AWESOME!!!! The food is amazing but there was no raw chicken option, just ‘regular’ meats on a stick with some sauce that was soooo good i wanted to dunk my head in the jar!

Trent, that is probably the best restaurant review I have ever hd the pleasure of reading shaka

Yeah yakitori doesn’t seem to have the weird stuff!

Kushiyaki is the bars (typical after work white collar worker type places) that have the weirder stuff! They is a great laneway full of them will try and find out where it is!

Never heard of the raw chicken stuff?????

And I doubt very much that I’d eat it either!!!!!

Ahh ok thanks for the reviews. I’m very much looking forward to 3 weeks of Japanese food (although I will need to find some decent fruit and salad at some stage!) I’m open to any recommendations of places to check out.

Just found the Yakitori clip from the show on youtube.
