Hopefully it will bring the prices down a little for their stock. Some pretty cool stuff there though and they make good coffee for the run to work at 6am 
Damn another one bites the dust eh? I thought with the coffee side of things it mighta had a better chance than your average surf store. Having said that I never set foot in the place, my nearest surf shops are Insight and Quiksilver and I guess Beach Without Sand are all equidistant from me.
The Surgarmill was a sick shop. Sad to see it go but I’m sure the Misfit dudes will be back stronger than ever. Here is the official press release.
MISFIT GROUP ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF NARRABEEN LOCATION
WE’RE ON THE MOVE….
Hello friends
As of a result of being unable to negotiate a feasible lease arrangement moving forward and a desire to focus energy into the best performing arms of our business, the Misfit Group are saddened but excited to announce that we are departing our current location at Narrabeen, consolidating entities and relocating to new locations.
The group will be moving forward in the areas that we are receiving the most growth and future scalability; our surfboard manufacturing arm Misfit Shapes and our separately run, not-for-profit café subsidiary Coffee for Aid, which supports our primary Aid organization Misfit Aid.
The toughest decision we have had to make is that the physical retail store of The Sugarmill will be put on ice until a suitable new location is found/ until we believe it time to re-launch a “bricks and mortar” retail store and/ or until we have devised a new e-commerce inclusive retail model, but we do not expect this to happen until at least mid 2013. In the mean time the Sugarmill will relaunch a new version of our frequently visited blog documenting surf through the perspective of art, fashion, culture and lifestyle with accompanying social media. The culture and spirit of what made the Sugarmill successful originally will continue, and in our belief grow through these platforms.
The physical Sugarmill store has and continues to perform well, but Misfit Shapes is growing at the rate of knots and coupled with current rental burdens is now hindered by the store, so the decision has been made to close her temporarily.
Misfit Shapes, with a massive reduction in overheads and an increased strategic focus and energy, will grow to a stronger position even quicker. Dave (shaper) will immediately move into existing bays at our glassing factory in Mona Vale that customers can visit and order/ pickup boards, direct sales will be pushed through our existing retail trade partners and offices will be run temporarily from home offices until a feasible and suitable new location is found which will include production, showroom and offices. Our expectation here is early 2013.

A massive “MOVING OUT SALE” including all furnishings and fixtures, everything, starting this Thurs 15th Nov.
Cease trading of the Sugarmill store Sunday 25th Nov.
Re-open our café in an exciting and existing premise on Roberston Rd, Newport by Sunday 25th Nov.
Vacate Narrabeen completely by Monday 3rd Dec.
Dave to be shaping out of The Laminator, Mona Vale by Monday 3rd Dec.
Drive Misfit Shapes over the Summer months Dec – Jan onwards.
Relaunch of Sugarmill blog and social media end Jan 2013.
New Misfit Shapes factory/ showroom/ offices by Feb 2013.
Overall, we believe this is smart business. We like many companies are adapting to an ever changing marketplace, and unfortunately at times this means closing some doors to open others. Retail is a tough gig at present, but we are still passionate and confident in the Sugarmill and we hope we can open its doors again soon. But right now, we are pumped to drive it online and more confident and excited in the physical of Misfit Shapes and the café.
