price is $599 (plus shipping) but they seem pretty decent. and might be worth investing in.. (especially for back country..)

i like how it can connect with your smart phone.. only downside.. i have wp7.. and they dont have an app for it yet.. lol

found it

BATTERY
A fully charged battery lasts five to six hours, even at temperatures down to -10°C/14°F. Usage under temperatures equal to or below -20°C/-4°F will deplete the battery at a faster rate.

To perserve battery life:

initiate power saving mode by turning off the display. Press the back button on your remote. Recon HUD will still record all your stats in this mode.

Power off the Recon HUD when not in use (at lunch or at the end of your trip, for example).

Note: The battery performance of the Recon HUD will vary depending on the amount and/or activity of connected Bluetooth devices (ex: smartphone, action sports camera, heart rate monitor, etc.)

** hope that helps you guys smile

recon instruments make just the device that fits into a number of goggles, (smith optics, scott, zeal, etc) - they have been out for a year or so… (my bf was looking into them at the start of the year)

and its $399

Anyone know of a store in sydney that has a pair of the recon googles to try out ?

Awesome stuff h0z! From looking at both sites it almost looks likes oakley has paired up with recon, they look identical. For the price, i would go with the oakleys

I’ve tested the Recon goggles (Zeal). The technology is really good. The Zeal goggles/size/frame were horrible.

I would be super keen to try these Oakleys!

That’s exactly what they have done.. If you look at the Oakley site, on the front, left side, bottom of the goggle ( looking from the outside) you will see it says “recon” cos on the back of the arm of the HUD they all say recon.. ( their way of advertising) =)

And depending in what goggles you get, the Oakley looks to be the same.. Or close enough to the price of getting the recon and fitting it yourself.. Just comes down to goggle preference now.. Haven’t tried oakleys, but wouldn’t mind a pair of Scotts (I have a pair of them already and they are comfy) and my bf loves his smith optics.. So id give them a shot if I couldn’t find Scotts I liked. Also though I do like the design of the white oakleys with the black drawings on them =)

nice, but too expensive IMO.  Bit of a bummer if you lost them in a stack or left them at a table in a bar etc.

or scratched them on a toilet door when they were only two weeks old…. downer

that might not be so bad, as you could at least buy a new lens.  Sounds like it happened to you?

You and me both!!

I recon if you made a “who can make the biggest fool out of themself” compitition with these as the prize you would see some priceless stuff and probably make your money back by entering them all in funniest home videos LOL

OH DAAAAAAMMMNNN. That is a crazy idea. I want to try some of these asap!

I wonder if they will do a demo day

I read on the recon forums that the oakley’s may have some more apps for the smartphone, but apart from that its the same HUD that goes into all of the other goggles.

Also watched a vid where the guy transplanted the HUD into his motorcycle helmet…which is what im thinking i might do.
