How to build a wakeboard boat - Lewis ski boats

Avatar

This is a vid Freddy made showing the behind the scenes of building a wakeboard boat for his work - Lewis Ski boats.

It shows from the bare mould all the way through to the pre-delivery water test (e.g. fanging it on Tuggerah lake.) Freddy works in fit-out, so once all the glassing is done, he fits everything like the engine, gauges, stereo, carpets, seats you name it!

Thought some peeps might be interested!

Whats the time frame per boat, start to finish?

Seriously cool! Thanks for sharing.

I’m envious of his job. Would love to do something like that.  smile

its not that hard to get in to, he started as a trade assistant and got 15.75 an hour for a bit, but was super interested in boats and chose to learn as much as he could. Doing his fit-out job at the moment he gets 20 an hour, which still isn’t amazing, but he really loves what he does, so it doesn’t bother him at all.

Tomorrow night is his last night at tafe and he’ll be a qualified shipwright, which should send his salary up at least a few dollars an hour when we get back from sweden and he finds a job.

K2 - Pretty sure they can have a fully customised boat (right down to colours etc) out to a customer in about 6-8wks (depending what other orders they’ve got). The top of the range Lewis boats have everything all the fancy branded boats have and are around one third, to a half cheaper in price - plus it is an aussie company!
I’ll double check that time frame with freddy when he comes home from work - I might be in trouble if i’ve given the wrong answer hahaha michelle

Freddy said the factory floor manager is the marine trimmer guy, as he’s qualified and been doing it for years (had his own business before he worked for lewis, I think) so he does a bit of it…but they also outsource some of it when he’s too busy managing.

It is Freddy’s last few days of work this week and also his last week of TAFE, so I don’t think he’ll have time to get any footage, sorry azz!
