Setback on True Twin

Guys,

This might be a dumb questions but I’ve only been riding for a few years and just picked up my first true twin board, the T Rice Pro HP. My previous board was a diretional and had a setback. I’m getting pretty decent and can ride any kind of terrain. Figured I would try to learn riding switch better and maybe hit up the park/step up my arial game this year. Few questions:
1) Is it bad and or will it throw off the balance/sidecut of my board if I setback my bindings on this new twin? Will a setback sort of defeat the purpose of getting this board?
2) Right now I have the bindings centered and my stance widith is about 23.5” (I’m 5’10, 170 lbs)
If I want to narrow my stance will it benifit me to move each binding in a little or can I just move my lead binding in a bit and end up with a longer nose and shorter tail?

I know its mostly personal preferrence and feel but just want to hear what any experienced riders have to say.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Anybody have experience with this board? thoughts?

Hey lgmg555, welcome to Boardworld. cool smile

Why do you want to set back your stance? Is it purely because you want to narrow your stance, or do you want more float for powder, or is it because it’s just what you’re used to?

Twin boards can be ridden with a set back stance (some reference stances on twin boards are even set up that way!). You shouldn’t have any problems there. Obviously it won’t ride switch as well as if it was centred, but that’s about it really.

Personally I like to keep my boards centred at all costs. If you can bring in your stance width to your desired stance while keeping it centred (so bringing in both bindings equally), that would be ideal - unless you’re riding pow and need the extra setback.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the quick response. I was thinking about setting it back mostly because thats what I’m used to and because I usually get to ride powder. I live in the northwest and mostly ride baker, whitler and revelstoke. I will try to move both in a little if anything to keep it centered like you suggested and see how it feels.
Thanks

Definitely give a centred stance a go before you revert back to a set back stance. The Trice HP has rocker between the feet, so that should give you a decent amount of float for pow anyway. Try something different; give the centred stance a good workout, ride switch more and improve your overall riding skills. smile

since you’re talking about small amounts, you can do either. You said you want to learn switch so I would keep it centered.  If you’re doing some pow riding then just move the back foot back.
Best solution: try both ways, that way you’ll know yourself what happens, and if you like it or not, rather than someone on the internet telling you

I have the TRice 157, I ride it with my bindings as wide as possible so by default they are centred, but I’m a bit under 6’3” and about 240lbs.  I ride switch quite a lot so wouldn’t ever set the bindings back unless I was heli boarding deep powder or something perhaps.  As far as having an issue with it, not sure, if it wasn’t too wild I don’t imagine it would be but if you had it as far back on both front and back bindings as it could be it might get into a weird issue with the C2 hybrid camber.

measure your inserts, you’ll most likely find that there is a slight setback anyway. It’s rare to find a true twin board. You may as well leave it centered if you plan to ride switch, not much powder or the board has enough float to keep you up in powder.

Pulling the bindings back will change the ride of the board as the pressure is now put on a different part of the side cut and this will affect your turn. It’s not a bad thing, but it’s about preference, and if you’re getting into park this will be less than ideal for anything switch.

I have a 2011 T.Rice, I usually ride my board with 0.5 inch setback, doesn’t feel different than a centered stance. Tried 3/4 inch setback once, there is a littleeee bit of difference but you probably won’t notice is as much unless you start riding switch maybe.

Just realised this thread was in the skate section. Moving to Snowboarding Equipment and Products. I will merge it with the other thread on this topic.
