Hi all,
In the recent days iv dicided that i wanna got to Canada for a workking holiday this season. AM I TOO LATE?? HAS MY SHIP SAILED ON THIS ONE?
If not Where? What? and Why?
Alos how long does it take to get a working visa for Canada?
And where should i start.
haha its never too late bud!! visas take around 2 weeks i think but it might be a little hard to find a job there it all depends where you go.
last year i was in Banff for around 2 months in Nov and couldnt find a job at all but then i went to Whistler and found accom and a job in 1 day very easy there!!
good luck bro and i may see you over there
Yeah was hoping whister but ill go where there is a job and some good snow
No you’re not too late. Start organising now. If you get to Whistler in time for the job fair you should have no problems.
I’m heading to Whistler this season and to be honest I haven’t even applied for my visa yet.
Let me know if you need to know anything. Then let’s go for a shred when you’re over there!
Moving this to Mountains and Travel…
hmm thats got me thinking, ohh canada
What is it like getting work in Canada later in the season? I definitely wont be there in time for the job fair, planning to get to Canada middle of December at the earliest, more likely late December.
From what I saw in whistler 08/09 the lifties who started later in the season got less shifts than others who had been there since the start of the season but they were still eligible for all the staff perks like discounts and season pass etc.
As Jeremy said, the job fair is a good place to start for anyone getting there earlier. Work can be found easily, it may not be a great job but as long as you’re not too picky about what you want then you shouldn’t have a problem.
Visa’s are easily done through http://www.whpcanada.org.au/introduction.shtml just fill out the online form there then print out the copy they email you. Once thats done all you need is 2 passport photos, $160 and a photocopy of your passport. Once you send that off you’ll recieve another email shortly (~2 weeks from my experience, most recent renewal I did I had a reply in just over a week) notifying you that you’ve been successful. All in all it’s a really easy process.
Hopefully catch you over there along with rider for a shred in the new year
yeh i was planing on heading over there early november so i sorta will me those job fairs. So it make life a little harder.
Thats still pretty good. Season doesn’t kick off in whistler until late November so you shouldn’t be all that disadvantaged.
In whistler up at base 2 (mid station of the blackcomb gondola) theres a carpark and off to the side is a building called the Cabin from memory. You can go in there and they handle all the jobs working for the mountain so they sometimes have them advertised up on the wall there if thats what you’re after. Otherwise theres a tonne of shops in town aswell as bars etc so just keep an eye out in the windows for wanted positions and just drop your resume in even if they don’t have one up and you’re bound to find something.
