I need to buy 4 x GoPro2—-and maybe 10 more later

Avatar

I need to get four gopro 2s and probably a whole pile more later down the track. All need flat lenses or dive housings.

Where is best to purchase them price and warranty wise?

http://www.shopbot.com.au/m/?m=gopro+2

ive brought stuff from a few of the sites on there, DWI (i got my 2nd gopro 2 from there for 244 in a group buy they emailed me about.. like 3 months ago,)

and digital camera warehouse ive brought lenses from.. they have a physical store in syd, bris and melb iirc, as well as online smile

(if not see what spaz can do for you ^ smile )

or for around the same price you can get the gopro 3 white (like $260?) and that comes with the new lens and the new housing thats just like my dive housing, and its smaller and lighter too…

which might be the best option, considering the similarity in price,

(keep in mind, if you get the 2 - even though its like $30 cheaper..you will still need to get the dive housings.. (mine cost me $75 on ebay from a store in SA)

Yeah, I’d go for the Gopro 3 also, CRACKERS!!!!! Ring JB HIFI and see what kinda deal they can wrangle up????? There’s also a place in SYD and Melbs that Lanox and Mudhoney used to get theirs at a great price!!!!! (can’t remember the name though)

And GoPro 3 for one as it comes with the housing already, and especially if ya gonna have a group that will be usin them all at the same time!!!!!

That way ya can link them via WiFi and get some cool stuff happenin!!!!!

yeah i want to get my hands on a Gopro 3 too, let me know where you end up getting one crackers and for how much.

Can you use WiFi Underwater? me thinks not but I am unsure of this.

Also they are going to be added to a project that has already been using GoPro 2….its pretty important that they are exactly the same…exactly the same field of view/width, depth etc so that all the samples are standardised. Ill have to look into the Gopro 3 white a little more and see.

Spaz I think we are going to get the first lot this week. Its part of a bigger group of projects doing some Baited remote under water video sampling, the funding is sitting there so it should happen pretty fast. Its been delegated out to an intern to sort out but I thought Id ask around to see if there are any deals about.

Ill probably get a Gopro3 black at some stage for personal use as well. I might tie it in to this big order to get a better discount haha

The Remote can be used in the drink?????

From GoPro site;

Control up to 50 cameras at a time from up to 600’/180m in optimal conditions
Enjoy full camera control, including On/Off, Shutter and Settings control
LCD screen mirrors your camera’s LCD status screen
Attachment strap, key ring, and charging cable included
Wearable and waterproof to 10’/3m

And the GoPro 3 Silver is the same specs as the GoPro 2, just that it comes with the new housing and WiFi!!!!!

So, unless ya been usin the old housing underwater for the footage that ya have, and given that ya use the same settings, it should look pretty much identical to the eye!!!!!

I read the wifi remote will work underwater, but only up to about 12-15 inches.

Pretty sure it is for his PHD study, actually (and possibly a few other people’s as well) - as he said already, it is for Baited Remote Underwater Video Sampling….which as far as I know means you stick a video camera down in the water for hours at a time, attach bait to it and then see what fish etc turn up so that you can see the different species that populate that particular area/environment.

Then you download it to your computer, watch and count and use programs to determine the size and numbers of them. It is really very interesting, he got some super rad stuff for his thesis study for his honours last year!
