Where would u go?. I’m from Brisbane and realistically only expect to board in Aus may twice next year,if I’m lucky enough to get away from work…..the total costs for the trip at the moment for QT is similar to those at Perisher ..... I’ve been to both in 2012 and can’t decide for 2013. QT buses are painful ???????? I’m thinking of picking up a perisher season pass for 1499, may be worth my while if I go to perisher a few times 2013. QT is so pretty??????? What to do ......PS I’m off to copper mountin jan 18th for 7 nights woowoow!!!
Hi Jeanette, welcome to BoardWorld
I’m a bit biased here (because I work there) but I say go to Perisher. If you buy your season pass soon, you get early bird prices (last year were about $800 I think).
Also I’m told their Snow Sports School is excellent
Have you been to Thredbo?????
And welcome to BW too, JW!!!!!
(Just to let you know, a moderator will most likely move this post to the Travel Section)
Wanaka! Queenstown is a bit too much of a tourist hub, just head over the hill to little old Wanaka for some better mountains and a more relaxed vibe through town.
The only bummer with planning a trip over here is that you have to risk the chance you may get bad weather, with perisher I guess you have a bit more control being able to look at the forecast closer to the time.
another vote for wanaka from me.
Andy, might be an idea moving this thread to Mountains and Travel
Hey JW, welcome to Boardworld.
I couldn’t find any info on the Perisher Freedom Pass (was selling for $699 but finished now), but Thredbo are still offering their 365 pass for $999 until December 31st. http://www.thredbo.com.au/passes/season-passes/ (they were also selling for $699 earlier in the year).
It really depends on how many days you expect to go snowboarding. If you think you’re going to do more than two weeks on snow, then it’s probably worthwhile buying something like the Thredbo 365 pass.
If you want a real adventure and you’re only going for seven nights, my vote is also for Wanaka. It’s absolutely beautiful (just like Queenstown but less touristy) and the riding is really good too. You can easily hire a car for the duration of your stay there. It doesn’t cost much if you can split it with another person or two.
I’m going to move this thread to Mountains and Travel now.
Ok I’ll check out Wanaka, I am a huge fan of Ski in Ski out, if any one has some accommodation recommendations that would be great. Perisher we stayed at The Sundeck and LOVED its proximity and convenience for riding. looking for something similar if acheivable
Thanks all for your feedback!
J
Wanaka !!!!!!!
Ride Cardy or TC
not much on mountain accommodation in NZ. There are some neat apartments at the bottom of the hill at Cardrona though, and Cardies is a great resort!
Not much ski in ski out accommodation in New Zealand unfortunately. There’s a lot of ski in ski out accommodation at Thredbo though. The River Inn is in a really good spot, and there’s other lodges and apartments right on the Crackenback Supertrail (I forget the names). Of course there’s also the Sundeck at Perisher.
You might miss the convenience of staying on the mountain in NZ, but you will be staying in an absolutely beautiful town (Wanaka or Queenstown) with so much to see and do. Totally worth the drive if you ask me.

Ski In, Ski Out, is one of them!!!!!
Thanks again everyone ...My flights are booked !! Cheap as flights .......... Accommodation I’ve booked .....

Well damn J, that was easy!!!!!
I e got a bridge for sale if ya interested?????
Let us know how it all goes when ya eventually take the trip!!!!!
Do you actually like to ride park? If not staying in Wanaka town or Cardrona Valley would be more ideal
Accommodation at Snowpark is really nice though. Friends have rated it highly (the luxury apartments that is, not sure bout dorms)
