Probably not much interest to most of you guys, BUT Buller has held them for the last 50 odd years, now it has been announced that Falls will have them next year.
There is now an awfully funny shit fight between the two resorts, both claiming they will be holding them next year
Hopefully Falls wins out, Buller sux arse at it, time for a change
interesting times. He said, she said stuff. Are the kids the winners?
Oh the private school snobs in Melbourne must be up in arms about this.
I am finding it highly entertaining! Glad you are too (cause you know i don’t have a vested interest in it)

Maybe with the two parties vying for the event, there will come extra benefits in the form of incentive based offerings?????

nah… doubt it. More likely it will cost more to pay for all the legal stuff.

We know of people that have bought apartments, with the main reason (tax dodge aside) is to have accommodation for inter schools.
There are pissed off and stoked people with this for sure.
Surely the NSW example is a good model, alternating each year?
Some of my best times at school were had at those comps. Epic, village wide snowball battles / trying to sneak into bars / and the time when someone though it would be a good idea to have a brass band at the opening ceremony - poor tuba dude…

what a tragedy!

You could have the same fun at another resort? Maybe even MORE fun!

OOOH I have a lot to say on this topic! Will jump on tonight and share my bit haha.
Been taking kids to interschools for the last 4/5 years. Choose not to this year cous I had enough of the crap at Buller.
To be continued…
First thing I said to Tambo when she told me of the change to Falls…... “K2 will be stoked!!!!”

Well actually, not so sure about that. Certainly, Hotham couldn’t do it. They don’t have the facilities, the space or the terrain to host 5000 + kids/parents. Not sure if they would even want to host it.
Falls hosts nationals in alternate years. It has been “pleasant”, but not really that well organised. the last time we went there, Wildman was Champ in his div for SBX, and the presentations were held at Cloud 9. We had to go down to the carpark to fetch his team jacket, then the presentations happened a bit early, but they closed the lifts back up to Cloud 9, and we didn’t get to see the presentations. That experience left a bit of a sour taste in the mouth. Another time, racing was on Father Fosters, it was a bitter cold day with lightning storms… we had to take shelter in the starters hut, as the mountains shut down, and Munga’s pants caught fire from the crowded conditions with about 15 kids and marshals etc all squashed in.
To my mind, Buller actually did a pretty reasonable job in hosting a pretty big and tricky event… K2 might disagree, and I might be swayed…. and we’ve never been much into the whole Alpine thing, (just Raindrop competing on skis). My biggest disappointment in all this is that Interschools now seems to be considered as something more specifically aimed at private schools, and people with plenty of money. (at least from the stuff I’m reading) In the past, when the kids were into it, there were as many public school teams as there were private, and they performed just as well. (these numbers have fallen off considerably as snow sports isn’t as available to all for whatever reasons, and participation rates in school teams has dropped enormously. Our team in 2007 had about 60 members, this year there were 3). I’d like it at Falls for selfish reasons… we have a Hero Pass, and know a heap of crew so accom is cheap, but if it stays at Buller, fine (we won’t go), but let’s have it equally accessible to all schools again and not just the elite.
