On 7” tablets:
“Apple’s done extensive user-testing on touch interfaces over many years, and we really understand this stuff. There are clear limits of how close you can physically place elements on a touch screen before users cannot reliably tap, flick, or pinch them. This is one of the key reasons we think the 10-inch screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps.”

-Steve Jobs, October 2010

Didn’t take them long?

Yeah, they had to wait for Steve to die first.

One aspect that’s particularly cool, is that they’re the SAME retail price in Australia as the USA!!!!

EDIT: It’s changed from when it was first announced - must have been a glitch. Now we’re back to being screwed as usual.

Haha too quick, I’ve been waiting to post this!  raspberry

Possible reaction to the impressive sales of the amazon kindle fire and google nexus 7?

Totally. They realise there is a market for it and therefore are filling the gap in their product line.

I have nothing against them for doing it, It’s just a nice quote from Steve that they took absolutely no notice of lol.

Yeah they effectively have an ipod touch in a whole bunch of sizes now!

I wonder how long it will take for the current iPhone 5 “thumb” ad to become as redundant as the Steve Jobs quote.

Good point.

Yeah, as soon as I saw that ad, I thought it was a bad move. Not because of the iPads, where you use two hands, but because of the potential for iPhones to increase in width in the future. Still, with all the different iPads and iPods now on the market, perhaps they never will?

there’s some big google announcement on 29th October where apparently they will release a new 10” Nexus tablet made by Samsung and the next Nexus phone made by LG.

It’s good to hear your opinion on it chucky being in advertising and an apple fan. It just seemed like a severely limiting campaign. We’ve all seen the rapid growth in screen size of smartphones and the increasing choice in tablets (for better or worse).

I just found it came off as a pretty smug commercial and I just couldn’t get beyond the fact that don’t we all have different sized hands/thumbs?

I personally think Asus have been making the best android tablets and they seemed to have done a pretty good job on the Nexus 7.

Can’t say I’d be thrilled with the Nexus phone going to LG.

I’m just really hoping all the manufacturers start using pure Jelly Bean (or whatever the OS is at that time) which has been a big selling point of the current nexus (which typically has lower spec hardware than the competitiors) and stop spoiling it with their own bloaty UI’s such as sense/touchwiz.

Stock android is a very capable UI.

Steve would NEVER have allowed that ad to see the light of day!

I’m not a fan of some of the calls Apple have been making post-Steve, and there’ll be many more to come.

Let’s put it this way - while I’ll continue to use their products as I genuinely believe them to be superior (for MY needs), if I owned stock in Apple, I’d be looking for an opportunity to sell.
