Wow a No 3 already!
The Hero2 was like the ipHone 4s to the iPhone4. a small evolutionary jump. The Hero3 black edition is the cam I’ve been waiting for. Glad I didn’t commit to a Sony Action cam. 1080@60fps and 720@120fps is mental in such a tiny package.
i’ve been seeing pics of that new housing for awhile now on athletes profile on FB and instagram - real world testing? is that video mizu posted all gp3 footage? so glad i didnt drop for the wifi bacpac for my GP2… i can hear the dust settling now

Super happy to hear that they’ve redesigned the audio capture. will be interested to see/hear the results.
somebody buy me one then I can make crappy videos of doing turns down a slope on-piste in even better resolution than I do now.
Does it have a screen? if not can you still get a screen backpack?

If you look closely at the back of the remote control, there is a Gnarly button.
It makes whatever you are doing at the time look 50% Gnarlier than what it actually is.

Yeah, perhaps “more stylish than previous models”, but definitely not “stylish” by any means.
The bullet shaped cams will always be way better than GoPro - from an industrial design perspective. However, from a marketing perspective, GoPro’s on a winner - because even from a distance, you instantly identify when someone’s using a GoPro.
The white edition comes with inbuild WiFi but no remote. Would it be cheaper to sell my GoPro HD Hero2 for 200€ and buy the Hero3 with a WiFi remote(though I couldn’t find it on the website) for 250€??
im thinking a xmas pressie to myself!, would probably be one of the more cheaper presents.. :/ (considering last year was alot of my snow gear, and the year before was a new computer.. and the year before was my new car… LOL)
even though i already have 1 x hero HD, and 2 x hero 2 HD’s and the wifi remote.. (im a bit of a camera gear collector! hehe) only downside is, it means i need a new dive housing and wrist mount, with it being smaller.. or i could just use the 2 for underwater..

I doubt many consumers will get their hands on one by Christmas. Pre-orders are being taken but that doesn’t mean it’s gone into mass production yet and if it has they wont meet demand and no stockists will have any. The first few months will be filling back orders. REMEMBER IT’S GETTING CLOSE TO CHRISTMAS and this will be #1 on many peeps wish list. I think this is more a marketing ploy so GP will be credited as the first camera with 4k tech.
On 4K - top end tv’s have been on the market for 6months - a clear indicator this is the new “HD”, if future visual products (cameras) don’t have a 4k model in their brands line they won’t survive.
And if this tech is out their for GoPro it won’t take long for the other ActionCam brands to have it in their 2013 models (and probably at a cheaper price).
Don’t hold your breath to get a GP3black edtition.
Wait until the market settles into 4k since basically anything you put online over 720 is overkill, HDDVD is 1080 and that tech struggles (unless highly compressed for .avi files), DVD is 480p and it’s quality is very good anyway.
As for GP3 audio - it is still mono, the housing needs to be open to make full use of it, it’s compressed at 48khz AAC (not great) - BUT IT WILL HAVE A MIC PORT (which will require the housing to be open).

my snow gear that was a xmas pressie to myself.. saw me holding off on anything and saving till march to get it all.. had to et a few things from melbourne (my board and bindings, from seperate places too) and had to get my jacket from O/S cos i coulfnt find my size in that colour in aus.. :(
i think ill survive the wait with my other camera anyways

i brought my original fopr the 399 about 3 or so years ago..
i brought my 1st hero 2 for 277, shipping included, on ebay.. from a group buy.. about 4 months ago..
and i got my 2nd hero 2 for 240 again shipping included, from a camera site i get lenses from in sydney.. about 1 month ago..
(by the 2nd one i figured a new one was on its way, and people were clearning the 2’s.. but for that price.. i wasn’t complaining)
