Nippon is Japan in Japanese (hence the nickname that I shan’t repeat).
I’m not sure, but I think Nihon might be the word for ‘japanese’ or maybe its nihongo
Some of the wee bit of japanese I remember from school is ‘Nihon go deh nun deska?’ Which means ‘What is this, in Japanese?”...but the sentence structure is different so the ‘what is this’ bit is at the end.
Yep - we should go with the pronunciation/spelling found in the Macquarie Dictionary…that is what it is there for!
Ha I say carsel. But my dad pronounces plants as plunts and the fruit mandarins as mun-da-rins. Cracks me up every time!!
Hahaha that reminds me of a time I got a bloke at work.
I pulled a phone number of a random fruit shop from the internet. Then I left a note on my workmate’s desk saying “Please call Amanda Rheen” followed by the fruit shop’s number.
So he rings the fruit shop saying “Can I please speak with Amanda Rheen?”
And the fruit shop guy must have been going “WHAT??” because my workmate kept repeating “Amanda Rheen. I need to speak to Amanda Rheen!”
The gut on the other end must have lost his shit, because my workmate was pretty embarrassed once he realised what was going on.

Michael Caton is well trained in voice, his Stralyn accent is 100% put on.
I find it so funny that the poster boy for Aussie slang and Stralyn accent is so well trained in pronunciation that he has to fake it.
I was close friends with his son who does narration and voice over on many productions such as My Kitchen Rules. Michaels speaking voice is superb and almost void of accent.
