I’ve been slowly building up an RC Helicopter with the intention of using it to film and take still images. I’ve just finished stage one, being a fully built heli and mounted gopro!
It’s the first heli I’ve flown so I’m both learning to fly and learning how everything works and learning how camera’s work on it haha.
Took it up this afternoon for the second flight and ran the gopro on it!
Check out the footy! The Go-Pro is only short term, will be looking to rig up DSLR once I conquer flying, but in the meantime this is fun!
If anyone is interested more then hit me up, and follow the progress on my facebook page
yewww!!
looks like you arent too bad at keeping it up and getting it down without crashing. How are you at filming something moving?
My mate just got one as well but it looks a little different, its more like a square box with 4 rotarblades on each corner, his is easy to fly but so hard to get good enough to film with.
looking forward to seeing some more shots!!
Sick !!!!!!!
You will get awesome footage with that
Looks sweet!
That’s awesome. Can’t wait to see the footage you’ll get with that!
yew yeah i’m pretty hyped about it right now!
Crackers - Your buddy is running a quadcopter which are nice and simple to fly yep! but tend to get abused by the wind pretty easily. This thing is just a regular looking heli with tail rotor, but about 1.5m long and should stay steady in some mild winds.
As for follow filming, that will come with more practice I guess! I can control where I want the heli to be in the air without too much trouble, but that’s taking most of my concentration just now. Eventually with the DSLR, that will be on an independently controlled gyro with live video feed, so we will be able to point the camera to track a target despite what I’m doing with the heli. I’m hoping the gopro is wide enough to capture most action, but its really just my testing and learning machine until I build the next model next year
That’s awesome, Cam. So stoked to see it up and running!
haha looks like so much fun, scary putting a dslr on it but it will get some sick footage! would love to get one of these when the funds allow it
Wicked!!!!!
See ya also rockin the Rotolog!!!!! I like ya style, FMF!!!!!
nice pick Mize. Nixon = Best
Did you end up going to a club? You gotta see the way those guys fly!
Might just find some time to get my bird up again. Mind it’s a 300 not a 600 like yours - got it to train myself to fly, crashes happen because I keep trying more flight moves and going 3D after I mastered hovering and landing. I forgot the intentention was for carrying a camera.
At the time (a few years ago) I intended on upgrading to a Nitro chopper (have Nitro experience with my truck). But since then the quadcopter scene really emerged.
I figure money would be better spent on a dedicated quad rig for video - they start at $10k and after the money I’ve spent on my 300 chopper (and other RC) $10k seems a good investment (if I focus on just the video aspect).
The flying alone is fun and addictive.
Nice one mate!
I didn’t subscribe to a club spaz, its $400 odd for the good heli club near me, and I’m only in aus another 2 months before I’m out for a while so didn’t make much sense. I went down there to get it test flown however everyone was flying mode 1, and I’m mode 2. (left control stick throttle - which Im sure you know!) So I took it to the park by myself haha. 5 Flights on it now, lost a training skid mid air today and managed to bring it down on three legs without any blade strike, lucky!
Check out and subscribe to this guy - his video’s are super informative, and he has insane skill, and has just begun to work on quad’s and FPV. He was a serious 3D Nitro guy, some good video’s on his channel.
Nixon = Best
Couldn’t agree more.. and their after sales service is brilliant. Just got a whole new face and surround on my 6 year old player after smashing it in Whistler for $66.
