. . . a little analogy about some of Australia’s political parties:

- A vote for the Coalition is like investing in superannuation. It’s boring, not at all cool, and sometimes you’ll wish your money was spent elsewhere - but even though there’s still no iron-clad guarantees, it’s a fairly safe bet in the long run.

- A vote for Labor is like spending that same money on a bag full of scratch-and-win tickets. There’s still a remote chance of a payoff somewhere along the line, but either way, you’re left with a huge pile of waste at the end.

- A vote for the Greens is like blindly handing a big wad of cash over to a dodgy fortune teller. You’ve recklessly squandered your money, no doubt about it - but if you were crazy enough in the first place to do it, there’s still a good chance you’ll walk away happy, with a head full of hope and promise (no matter how ridiculous those hopes and promises may be).

Do you bother voting Chucky? or just have a standing date with a Judge every four(ish) years?

I always vote - for the lesser of all evils.

I don’t follow any particular party’s preference suggested preferences, I figure it out for myself. My voting strategy generally revolves around attempting to preference the ‘most evil’ as low as possible. That means if, for example, I had the opportunity to preference the KKK ahead of the likes of Clover Moore, I would do so. Often it’s an exercise in futility, as there’s a LOT more gullible morons in my electorate than there are people like me, but that doesn’t stop me trying. Besides, the amount of eyebrows beeseekay and I managed to raise due to our ‘conversation’ while waiting in line to vote, made our recent “exercise in futility” (Sydney council elections) a worthwhile outing.

Sigh. Face, meet palm.

You’re in a good place right now, spaz, so I’ll refrain from mercilessly dissecting that drivel. Instead, I’ll offer a little analogy about some of Australia’s political parties:

- A vote for the Coalition is like investing in superannuation. It’s boring, not at all cool, and sometimes you’ll wish your money was spent elsewhere - but even though there’s still no iron-clad guarantees, it’s a fairly safe bet in the long run.

- A vote for Labor is like spending that same money on a bag full of scratch-and-win tickets. There’s still a remote chance of a payoff somewhere along the line, but either way, you’re left with a huge pile of expensive waste at the end.

- A vote for the Greens is like blindly handing a big wad of cash over to a dodgy fortune teller. You’ve recklessly squandered your money, no doubt about it - but if you were crazy enough in the first place to do it, there’s still a good chance you’ll walk away happy, with a head full of hope and promise (no matter how ridiculous those hopes and promises may be).

yawn. Starting to sound like a broken record.

Yawn. Perhaps - but that doesn’t make it any less true.

no I agree its not the yawn that does that. The yawn however is for the multiple threads running that all somehow have turned to politics, with the same people repeating the same stuff ad nauseum. We get it, pretty sure everyone knows where you stand on this stuff by now. If the thousand posts like this haven’t changed peoples mind then I doubt another thousand will either.

True, some people are burdened with their delusions for life. However, some do grow out of them, so it’s not entirely a lost cause.

Knowledge is power, and the more informed people become, the higher the likelihood they’ll eventually wise up.
