YES vs Libtech C2BTX

Demoing a YES 156.5 Asym board next week and interested in others experiences of this and the LibTech C2BTX range (T.Rice and Dark Series). I’m coming off a Burton Rush and from what I have read the YES shares some similarity in relation to flex and edging, but with the benefit of rocker in the tip/tail and a new approach to edges with UltimateGrip.

well, C2 has rocker in the tip, tail AND center (and camber under the feet). The Yes is more of a cambered board with rockered tips. UltimateGrip vs Magnetraction is the other question. I’ve used magnetraction (on a C2 Trice) and I liked it. Haven’t tried Ultimategrip.
Seems like a tie to me. Which graphics do you like better?

Hopefully I will be able to give you some personal feedback very soon, but I have not yet tested the C2 camber or the YES boards. Please give us your feedback after you demo. I’m looking forward to demoing them myself, been meaning to for a while now.

I’ve got the Yes 156 typo which has the camrock, bought it after the demo days down at perisher in june and honestly couldn’t be happier with it, rockered tip and tail are great with a nice amount of flex for butters and presses etc and the cam/flat between the feet gives it a really solid feel underfoot and has some great drive when holding an edge. Would highly recommend giving it a demo if you’ve got access to one. I have only ridden a couple of rockered boards and wasn’t ultimately sold on the feel of them since i’ve always ridden cambered boards so this seemed like a great middleground.

Unfortunately haven’t demo’d any of the Lib Tech’s so can’t really give any comparisons on them for you so this is a bit of a one sided review. It was Dave at one track mind who got me thinking about the typo and insisted i demo one as I hadn’t even considered it and didn’t know much about them since they’re pretty new on the market but stoked that I took his advice.

Hey Finney, it’s Amine from YES here.  Stoked you grabbed the 156 typo from ONETrackmind, welcome to the family mate!

With regards to the Magna vs. ULTIgrip topic, I have ridden both, and both work well!  I did a store demo @ Mt. Buller yesterday (which was very icey!), and I rode THE DUDES (asym board with ultigrip) for the majority of the day. It has a very playful flex, which generally means it wont have the stiffness to make you feel confident when on edge on ice, but the ULTIgrip breaks that rule - IT IS INCREDIBLE ON ICE!!!!!  The board doesn’t slip/skid out when you hit ice at all, but you wont wont notice that its even there on any other snow condition.

And with regards to our CAMrock profile (which has camber between the feet and rocker tip and tail) - it is incredibly versatile. The best way for me to describe this mix of camber, is that it at speed it will give you the stability of CAMBER, but at slower speeds and for pressing, it will feel looser like a ROCKER.  It really is a rocker hybrid that you can ride hard all round the mountain. 

FYI - The CAMrock profile was used by a few companies this year (we made the Transworld Good Wood Freeride category with it), but is being used by quite a few more for there 2011-12 collections!  Because it works very well.

yo amine, you were running the demo tent at perisher yeah? good to meet you and cheers for the setup on the day.. as I said, couldn’t be happier with the board. Kinda bummed the 154 dudes was never in when i was around but typo seems to be perfect for my riding from the few days i’ve had on it since the demo so it’s all gravy at the end of the day.

yup that was me.

In my opinion, the TYPO and the DUDES both do the same job - both are great all mountain twins.  The difference, is that the TYPO is more stable in smaller lengths (for park stuff), and the DUDES is an upgraded version for all mountain performance…so lighter core, a faster base, more carbon stringers etc.  but again, both boards perform very well.

hit up ONETrackMind if you ever want to demo the DUDES and I will make it happen.  Thanks again mate.

This is the first I’ve heard of a rocker mix with camber board. Prob been out for ages though wink I’ll be needing a board for NoHe winter. So far I’ve only ridden camber but from the good feedback I’ve heard of rocker boards I was thinknig of checking them out. A hybrid may be the way to go though. Cool!

You should also check out the Signal Omni. Wavelength technology hand built in the states by former lib-tech pro rider Dave Lee.  It has camber between your feet and rocker on tip and tail.  The best of both worlds!

there are lots of versions of the camrock style rocker and the c2 style rocker out there, so its best to just try and demo and or pick a board without worrying too much about the ‘types” or comparing to others, all boards have their own feel and most companies are trying to make a baord that is fun to ride in all situations. for me i know what size range i want, and what waist width i need but beyond that i don’t have too many worries. i just usually gravitate to what i’m stoked on and that changes year to year. even then i haven’t been on a “bad board” for over 10 years and each new board becomes my favorite until the next one. just go with your gut and then have fun learning how it behaves and mastering it.

Doc, that layed back perspective, really lightens my load when thinking about the Burton Custom camber vs v-rocker whatever.
I think I may go with the V.

why limit yourself to just the custom? also the 2011 custom has flying v, the 2010 has v-rocker
