Because the media has cained this story over the last week (it’s been the top story on news.com.au all week) how is anyone that gets arrested or charged going to get a fair trial? Now I don’t understand the legal system other than what I’ve seen in the movies but I’d assume that we have trails with jurors here. With it all over the media how do they find any people that aren’t going to be biased because of the coverage. I mean even tonight there is news reports of a guy getting charged before he has been? Now if he is the guy, then for her family I hope he rots in jail…but unless its a watertight case won’t it be hard to prove because there has been a media witchhunt just to find the bad guy? Won’t it hamper the police case?

I’m not exactly sure how it works. We definitely have jurors, but i don’t think the jury’s opinion has the same weight here that it does in the US (like we see on tv all the time).

I also think that you have a point, but we don’t know anything about the evidence surrounding this guy’s arrest. So why would anyone assume that it really is this guy who is guilty, just because he was arrested for it? Yes the case has had a lot of coverage but I don’t think there has been any particular witch hunt over this guy and no one knows why.

I’m just saying that if I was the juror, I wouldn’t go in there and have any kind of assumption that it was this guy in particular who was guilty until I’d seen and heard all the evidence myself.

There is now a lot of talk over twitter now about being careful what you say.

I think we can’t say x can rot in jail.

We can say people who do this are scum but can’t name and shame.

We can say the facts ie [name] has been charged…

The thing that really gets me riled, is how people get off simply because the media leaked their names!!!!! It doesn’t admonish the crime that they committed, and this is something that our justice system has to change!!!!!

If the person that’s been charged is released, then it’s okay for the media to name them as being a suspect in the case!!!!! So really, what is the difference?????

Way too many pieces of crap get away with disgusting acts on people, that ruin others lives as well!!!!! And we somehow put the perpetrators interests as priority number one?????
