Looking at heading up the coast, don’t really care how far I go. Camping, fishing and surfing for about 3 days.
Would prefer somewhere that allows for campfire cooking.
Doesn’t need to be a caravan park as I don’t mind roughing it.
Thanks
Forster / Port Mac / Nambucca Heads / Newcastle (to a lesser extent) would all be decent weekend camping trips
Grew up in the Coffs to Port area and more recently the Port Stephens to Central Coast area. Looking for something different.
Forster could be a goer. Have you been there before?
I was going to say Forster as well. I’ve been a few times, really enjoyed it. I remember getting some really good surf at Swansea Belmont (near Newcastle) back in the day.

Nope, but I’m really keen to do a trip this summer if I can. Most family holidays as a kid were to Port Mac and Rainbow Beach (probably crap for most surfers lol but I was like 10.)
Lots of good spots mate, do you have a 4wd? Forster/Seal Rocks area is my first choice just about everytime however you might like Mungo Brush as well and it’s a bit closer.
I have a Mitsubishi ASX which is a 4wd but doesn’t have much clearance. Makes off roading a little more difficult. Where is the other place you mentioned? Cheers
Mungo is in the national park just north of Hawks Nest. You would struggle with the ASX on the beach, we took a mates forester on the beach and it was a bit of close thing, doesn’t inspire confidence on soft sand. The camp grounds there are all accessible from sealed road and u can have fires. Seal rocks area you’re not sposed to have fires but in the quiet periods you can often get away with it, treachery you can have fires but its a private camp ground. If you’re going for surf there is a lot more options that work in a lot more winds within about 30mins of seal rocks, if it’s going to be NE the whole time you won’t need to travel more than about 10mins and you surf by yourself a lot which is good.

Thanks for that, I’ll pass the info alon to the rest of the crew.
Not in a rush to drive the asx on the sand, my mate has smashed the rear bumper of his xtrail driving in the soft stuff.
Where is treachery?
Google, Google Maps and Google Earth are your friend, I learnt all about that area the hard way from the age of 17, endless driving from spot to spot to get our heads around what works and when, a few minutes on Google Earth and a notebook and you should be able to get your head around the place pretty well. Treach does get really popular at the campground, apparently the cabins there are booked solid for Easter, Xmas hols and long weekends for the next 10 years or something.
Driving into Seal Rocks and the beaches south of there is all dirt road but I took lowered SS utes there for years with minimal dramas as long as you don’t mind getting your ride dirty. With a proper 4wd and or the motivation to walk (some spots no longer allow beach driving) you can find uncrowded waves even at peak times however north treachery, Boomers and Blueys will always have people out.’
Mungo Brush and the beaches there kinda demand a 4wd, take a look on Google, btw no you cannot drive the dirt road between there and Seal Rocks, it’s locked off to the public. The Foster/Seal Rocks end of Myall Lakes national park rangers are a lot worse than their southern counterparts and as a result more is closed off and more heavily policed as far as off road and beach driving is concerned.
This is one setup in that general area we had earlier this year
I’m going to have a look at google earth/maps and find somewhere. Last time I had a set up like that we were fined by the rangers for camping on the beach and having an open fire. Can’t remember how much it was though, was about 7 years ago.
I 2nd Seal rocks
Crackers, are you the guy in the shred vid wearing a state rail spray jacket?
He is.
Interesting. I work for Railcorp, and may know him.
mmmm I am slightly scared to answer now haha
I hope its not your jacket. you can’t have it back if it is. I am a very fast runner and you will have much trouble trying to get it off me. You are best off searching in a bowling club lost and founds for another.
