Hey guys,
I’ve had this idea for a while but I keep hitting roadblocks. I was hoping some of you might know something I don’t and can steer me in the right direction.
Basically, I see a lot of open land on the drives from Jindy to Thredbo, and Jindy to Perisher. I’ve always thought it would be an awesome idea to erect a big Boardworld billboard type thing in close proximity to the road where every single person sees it when they drive by. Of course the land is owned by people but there aren’t exactly houses you can drive up to and ask them etc. Obviously we would be happy to pay to erect a billboard on their land but I need to find the right spot and then get in touch with the land owner.
Does anyone have any idea how I would get in touch with the owners of the land? Also, for those who have done this drive a million times (spaz, ozgirl etc), can you suggest a good spot to potentially get the billboard up?
Just wanted to open this for discussion and a brainstorm. Anything you can add to this conversation is most appreciated. Obviously if we can pull this off, it would be a huge step for Boardworld.. We would be the only billboard on the drive to the snow. I’m not even sure if this is necessarily legal.
Thanks in advance.
Not sure on NSW regs for billboards.
First would be to identify your location, then approach the local shire.
As Azz said!!!!!
The local Council is the one that ya have to get permission off first!!!!!
They will most likely canvass the local community first, and they will most likely reject it!!!!!
Better of paintin an old van, then getting permission to park it on someone’s property????? Although the locals/council still might kick up a stink about that also?????
Down here in Vic, you see a lot of billboards on trailers, that way you can avoid having to go through planning, because you are just parking there.
It also gives you the option of moving to other locations for special events
SNAP !!!!
Hard to find info with a quick google
SNAP !!!!
I hope that wasn’t your hip, old fella!!!!!
Yea the mobile billboards would probably be your best bet. Technically you can legally park a trailer on the side of the road if it has a number plate on it.
E.G.
You would need to contact Snowy River Shire
Hips all good, got some titanium ones installed !!!!
Yea the mobile billboards would probably be your best bet. Technically you can legally park a trailer on the side of the road if it has a number plate on it.
You can’t park it on the footpath, or council land though!!!!! You could be fined!!!!!
And you can only leave it on the side of the road for a certain length of time before it is towed away!!!!!
Yeah the trailer would be a goer.
I may be able to help finding a land owner willing to put it on their land. But trailer is much less obtrusive (or ugly) than a “billboard”
I would have thought trailer would be more ugly… but if you can get a land owner to help you out, then its definitely a good advertising deal.
Just make sure everything is clear and easy to read etc as cluttered stuff gets looked over. But you already knew that
Thanks for the info, guys. Would you need council approval if it is build on private land? Surely the land owner can do what they want with their land? It would be within the owner’s property, not on the side of the road.
Kim, that would be amazing if you could find a land owner.
I guess the trailer is an option as well. Not quite what I was going for but a good idea anyway.
There is a billboard near Collector that can’t be missed.
Normally Thredbo advertise on it and on the back is a police billboard with just the cops glasses saying “we’ve got you in our sights” (or something). It’s on a bend as you head down hill (traveling south)
It is the most prominent billboard on the drive.
Secondly is one coming out of Cooma just passed the Adaminaby turn off.
There are a whole series of signs together where they are widening the road just out of Canberra but there are too many to take notice of just one.
From your post your more interested in Alpine Way (or Kosciuszko Rd).
Kosci Rd - the half circle hay shed would be my pick. But who owns it? (see if Ozmum or Ozdad know)
Alpine Way - You should know the owners of the schnappery - they used to run Thredbo ski school.
- Or Bimblegumby could use the dollars.
I have no idea about the legallity.
What if the Boardworld (replica) van broke down in a convenient location????
You probably need permission to build a structure on their land. Similar to putting an extension on a house.
Though you can build some things without approval, I don’t know where the line is drawn.
As it will be pretty blatant that it’s advertising, the council might have issues with it.
I agree Rider the land owner can do what the want BUT i don’t they they would want too.
Sorry,
But a small trailer could work. Spaz has some good ideas for local Jindy way.
But yeah I know some farm owners from Cooma thru to jindy.
The disused petrol stations outside Cooma could be an idea as well. I am guessing the owners there could do with the money! Speak to the real estate offices in Cooma to know who own them
