Here we go again (global warming)

What do you have against the north shore?

yeh there is a negative chance of everyone coming to an agreement. Like any debate on religion or apple products or freestyle v freeride

throw the byproduct in the middle of the desert., build some immigration/concentration camps on top of it.

#WINNING

I preferred putting it under the north shore or some other similar slum.

I have often wondered if you could shoot nuclear waste out into space, far enough out that it will keep going and have no chance of coming back into orbit at any stage or maybe send it into the sun. I wonder what the costs would be. That would get ride of the biggest draw back. Although there would still be some safety concerns.

seems I couldn’t help commenting again. I thought your post on the $$$ would have been a nice end to this one. There is 0% chance there will ever be agreement in this thread.

Unfortunately the costs would be very high, unless you build a space elevator.  Not only that, sending a nuclear payload into the atmosphere could be catastrophic if anything went wrong on the flight.  Mind you, it didn’t stop them powering the latest Mars rover with plutonium.  Even if all that was ok, look at the risks on earth.  Ask the Japanese people if they’re still cool with nuclear power.  To give you an idea, they turned off all of their reactors since the tsunami disaster.

Personally I’m waiting for a breakthrough in solar, but it is struggling at present.

Yeh you are right unfortunately, too bad!

I am pretty sure they have turned back on at least one reactor in Japan and plan to put more back online.
The Germans seem to be doing pretty well out of Solar but yeh it seems to be struggling most other places.

28th January, 1986. This is why shooting it off to the sun is a bad idea…...

Giant slingshot? that way there is no fuel to power a rocket which could spontaneously combust and cause a disastrous nuclear event in the atmosphere. Just engineer it enough so it could reach Uranus

I like your thinking !!!!!

Lets build it at your house smile

How many rubber bands do you think we will need LOL

Deal!

Umm oh prob around 4 or 5…trillion

That might work?haha anyways we wont have to be sending up a complex space shuttle so less chance of going wroing. you could case the waste in something and get Deanos sling shot out. At least the first few times we could aim it over NZ in case we f@#k it up

nothing really, I actually like it there. But I am guessing they don’t want nuclear waste there as much as the people living out in the country do.

Why does this topic illicit such cultish slavish religious fervour like behaviour from the devotees to climate change rhetoric?  I’m all for saving the planet but from my reading on the subject the “proof” is inconclusive and the planet goes through warming and cooling behaviour all of it’s own accord.  If there is a current warming trend I doubt that even 1% of it is actually due to humans.

There are far greater issues regarding the planet such as overcrowding and chewing up of resources at an unsustainable rate.  The industry I was in was very much in love with the climate change idea as it fed millions upon millions into the industry directly and indirectly through things like the carbon tax and escalating power costs.

The thing I don’t understand about the greenies is that they would like to have their cake and eat it too.  They want green energy but they don’t like wind farms due to various reasons like visual and noise pollution, nuclear is incredibly clean but thats a big no no due to the requirement to store the waste material at the end of it’s useful life.  Then they foist on us things like the electric car which run on batteries and need to be fuelled by energy from the grid placing more demands on the brown power stations currently in place.  Hybrids run on batteries as well which contain some incredibly toxic shit that needs to be disposed of at the end of the cars lifecycle in some form of dump.  This shit reeks of hypocrisy which when combined with their quasi communist ideals and slackjaw immigration policies means I would actively vote against them at every opportunity.

That is funny.
Greenies don’t like wind farms? ...did you make that up? nice generalisation. In that case ...right wingers don’t like knowing they are living unsustainably and throw a tantrum if anyone dares suggest so. The first thing they rely on is hollow one liners like ‘climate alarmist’ and ‘quasi communist’. Thats one of the reason I actively vote against them at every opportunity…(whoop di dooo who cares….)

Nuclear energy…..you conveniently gloss over the problem of the waste product. We can store it on the northshore I suppose.

Can I have my electric car back?

Crackers the greens don’t like wind farms as apparently they kill thousands of migrating birds each year, sounds like we want green power but it cannot cause any harm to anything ever.  Sometimes I think the greens will only be happy when all the people are dead.

Sure go put nuclear waste on the north shore, I don’t live there although I would suggest it gets put somewhere on the northern fringe of the Gong, it’s kinda close to Lucas Heights and less likely to have a violent protest than the Shire.

Hollow one liners, my god the green movement is king when it comes to that shit, they are a pack of idealogical minus brains who literally cannot see the forest for the trees.

Mudhoney, the abject stupidity of building nuclear reactors in an earthquake zone was proven in Japan, the interior of this country would be a great place to put that kind of thing, it doesn’t ever move and there’s not much else out there.

Solar will be great when and if they ever develop solar cells that are about 300% more efficient and less costly than they are currently.  The size of the solar field currently required to produce a decent amount of electricity is massive and then there is the issue of the sun setting, battery tech needs to catch up so that unused power through the day can be stored and transmitted at night.

The greens seem to attract support from the younger generation, the one that has grown up being brain washed by Al Gore and the rest of his climate alarmist pals.  The very document that Al Gore based his premise on has been shown to be flawed and many of the scientists credited in it actively fought to have their names removed from the doc as they felt they had been either taken out of context, did not agree with the conclusion or had some other issue with it altogether.

I’m not going to sit here and say that the anti climate change movement doesn’t do exactly the same thing but in the interests of furthering their own causes both sides have muddied the waters so bad that a casual observer has no hope in making an educated decision and is far more likely to go with the “politically correct” global warming side of the arguement.

The greens and climate change lobbies have wielded PC very well as a tool, you tell most people you don’t believe in climate change in a public forum and they will look at you like you just shat in your own hand and started chowing down on it.  Then you’re attacked personally as someone who is either very dumb, not well read, prejudiced, bigotted, racist and any number of other negative connotations that a person has no way of knowing about you based on the fact you don’t believe in man made climate change.

In ten years time when I’m riding Perisher and it’s another 2m plus year at SPencers Creek I will take great joy in saying I told you so however the climate change mob will just push out the forecast another ten years only this time if we don’t do something (spend billions of dollars on their flawed research) we’ll end up with volcano’s sprouting from beneath our feet, tornado’s will be an everyday occurrence and it will be like living in a sauna.

Yep biggest problem with Bio fuel is resources to grow it.

and wind farms get knocked for heaps of reasons - no one wants them in their backyards even if they didn’t harm the birds!

From an outsider it does look like we are running around in circles and throwing good cash after bad.
