I’m well overdue for a new phone and have been waiting for this.  Will be comparing the new iphone with the latest and greatest Android (Sammy Galaxy S3 4G?).  I have a toe in the water in both platforms at present (old iPhone 3GS and new Nexus 7 android tablet).

Might as well put some random, stream-of-consciousness thoughts down:

iPhone pros
- nicer looking and rock-solid UI (this point can be argued, it’s my perception)
- better app support
- new IOS will have built-in navigator, matching android’s nav apps
- nice looking hardware, although this is a matter of personal taste
- traditionally better battery life without needing to run task killers
- seemingly less prone to malware
- standard hardware works with every iOS

iPhone cons
- typically heavier and more fragile, not sure about new model
- no external storage
- must use iTunes
- where’s the NFC?
- will new model have LTE compatible with Telstra’s network?
- not really liking the form factor I’ve seen in the rumour mill, but will need to hold it in my hand to test that

Android pros
- cheaper
- nice big bright screens
- typically tougher hardware, although not as good as some claim
- much more customisation in UI.  I especially like widgets
- drag and drop any file
- good integration
- true multitasking (good that it has it, but watch the battery)
- google cloud services integration

Android cons
- code fragmentation
- manufacturer support for new firmware releases varies
- I’m a bit worried that if apple manages to keep SGS3 off the market in the US, Samsung may grandfather this device and slacken off with support

Shouldn’t repost the apple logo without approval, might get sued. LOL

Ohhh I have been eyeing of the Nexus 7!!

Oh and i read that Apple will finally bring NFC to the iphone.

I also read that they may be doing away with the current charge plug. Hoping this will be a uniform micro usb like all the other phone out there!

N7 is good so far, but apparently they are bringing out a 3G model in a month or two.  Would be much better if it also had a SD card slot and/or more memory.  It’s such a nice size and weight.  Was getting some envious looks on the tram home watching the latest Snowboard Addiction vid while other people were playing Solitaire on their iPhones!

I doubt the new connector will be standard micro-USB, but here’s hoping.

Hmm do i hold out for 3G…

I don’t really need it.

Yeah a way to connect to either an SD card or an external hard drive would be good.

3G = paying for another phone service.  I just tether mine through my phone, or at least I would if either the iPhone 3GS had wifi tethering or android would allow me to connect via Bluetooth!  That said, if you can hold out I’d still wait.  Maybe the 3G will be the same price, then you get something for nothing, even if only in resale value.  In October there is supposed to be an iPad mini coming out, so maybe the N7 will drop in price (actually probably not since they are apparently selling it at very near cost price) or they’ll offer more value somehow.
