The Right Boots

Avatar

Last thing need some tips on is boots I currently have DC Status BOA Snowboard Boots 2012 which I used for about have 1/2 of last season after upgrading from the Burton Ion which were good but BOA ROCKS! I going to be getting new gear soon Yes. The Greats w/ NOW bindings.. I like to ride fast and fast carves and will be hittin the park more this year practicing jumps in preparation for Whistler in March/April. I’m just wondering if I should get another pair of boots for the park softer maybe or stick with stiff all around ?? These rock on the mountain with my current setup: Lib Banana Magic w/ Ride Maestro bindings. I’m not sure how they will do with the new setup and in the park…

Any info would be appreciated

All recommendations for boots go something like this:

Go to a shop and try on every single boot they have, if possible, go to another shop and try on every single boot they have, that you have not already tried on…repeat until you’ve tried on every boot possible….then buy the MOST comfortable boots, no matter the brand, cost or price. The End.

That is just it for boots…brand and price come last, how your foot fits and feels in the boot comes first.

Boot flex comes down to personal preference. I like a fairly stiff boot because I know they soften up pretty quickly. cords is spot on though, boot fit is key, brands/models mean nothing unless it works for your particular foot.

A word on BOA for anyone reading this:

Don’t ever buy single BOA systems. Double BOA works much, much better.

if your boots fit fine why would you get new ones?

just ride, you wil be fine, if you want them softer just loosen the BOA as you ride

I agree, it’s all personal preference. I personally like stiff boots (currently 2012 Burton Driver X) for the nice support and they don’t become soft after using it for a while.

hey lester.

first love ur new choice of board, pretty much the setup im rocking now, i was playing with the now bindings in whistler this past season and their great. and i got pretty similar boots, i have the dc recco, basically the status without the boa, i love boa but couldnt find the status or judges in my size. also have a pair of dc superparks with boa.

really id stick with ur current pair of status, unless ur working as a lifty in them i dont think theyll break down quick enough to need another pair. if ur gonna b working and riding in them every day then i’d suggest a softer boot cause u’ll end up doing more walking/hiking/working in them, but if ur not and ur just riding they should b fine for all u wanna hit. the status boots will soften up with a bit of use and end up perfect for riding parks, my old dc judges turned to noodles in less than a season working in em.

Guys thank you for all the info, I will definitely go to a local shop and try on as many as I can, only reason I’m anti that a little is that I’m limited to the boots that particular shop has and after spending so much time there trying on a million boots you feel obligated to buy. Also the past experiences I’ve had felt rushed and basically pushed in a sence to “oh you gotta check these out” and “these come with this new tech” and “these would be perfect for you”.... After a few instances like that you start to lean towards the online shopping expierence. Which has it’s pros and cons but not being limited but online what you have in stock as you are in stores/shops is sweet plus no pressure.

Im definitely going to stick with a stiff boot, I like the DC status’s I have but I have a feeling they a 1/2-full size too big but I’m not sure any tips on checking that?

Thanx again guys

Get your local store to measure you. They will do this anyway when you try on the boots.

There is only one question here mate.

Are your boots comfortable to ride in?

If the answer is yes you are wasting your time getting new ones…

Figured I’d pass this along I just picked up a pair a Vans Aura in a size 9 I also own a pair of DC Status 10 they both fit exactly the same and have the same boot size in length gotta love it how companies can be so far off on actual size.

Yea the sizes can be totally different. Just an FYI on the Vans Aura, they loosen up A LOT. I’ve done 26 days now and they are fine but my next pair will be stiffer for sure. For the park rats, you’ll probably love the Auras with the double BOA. For those who prefer stiffer boots, I’d recommend passing on them.

Different brands have different fits, its just how it is and always has been

I heard the same I’m keeping these for messing around the park and practicing spins on the groomers and jumps…  for big mountain, pow sessions the DC status are the boot of choice never had a issue with then in those conditions and type of riding, I use to use the DC for everything but after going through days on mountain messing around in the park and doing presses/spins my foot started to hurt they are perfect for jumps and free ride but park not so much too stiff. Took the Vans Aura out today and I love them no pain, they are still responsive with some forgiveness great choice definitely
