Avatar

Finally we’ve managed to take the 9K for a test and are really pleased with this sportscamera. Waterproof to 20m, wet snow is no challenge to its integrity. The backscreen, a much sought after feature makes it a breeze to view footage and navigation of the menu is easy with good sized buttons, even with gloves on.

Here are some of the details for the tech heads:

G-force sensor
1080P and 720P HD video
GPS (optional)
20m water resistant
Laser pointer (lineup shot)
Shock Resistant
130 degree Field of View
5MP Photo Capture
Compact Design
Remote Control
HDMI Cable (video playback directly on HDTV)

The included G-force sensor measures:
Acceleration

Hang time
G-force of turning/braking/flipping/backflipping/scooping or anything insane you can think of doing with this gadget attached really.

The optional GPS module (sold separately) calculates:

Here is a sample clip we took recently. Please be aware this is only to show how the cam works out of the box, (We used it straight out of the box and didn’t adjust any of the settings) and it is showing the fun side of things with beginner boarders. these cams aren’t just for the pro’s, which we reckon is really important to emphasise. that being said, some halp-pipe riders are busting to give it a crack, so when we sort that, we’ll put a clip with advanced riding and moves in.
Pretty pleased with the quality all ‘round and particularly it ease of use:

Oh and how would you mount that for snowboarding

cheers Hammo.
the RRP is $399 delivered to your door mate - orders can be placed online here for immediate delivery http://www.sportscamera.com.au/atc-9k-action-camera-hd-p-388.html

as for mounting it for snowboarding, you could bang it on a helmet or some of the lads attach them to their boot. the front and rear of the boards kick-up of course, so directly mounting it to your board won;t work as well as it would say for a surfboard or bodyboard. holding it on a pole/short handle is another option smile

They seem like they would be a bit bulky and I had a look on the Oregon site and the mounts don’t look that great.

I use a ContourHD and the goggle mount works fine, but with much more weight I think it would just become a pain. I have never had a problem with the laser alignment so for a compromise of less weight to wait till I get back to the hotel to view it, I still think I made the right choice. It just seems like they are trying to cram too much into it with out the technology really being suitable for the size.

Each to their own, it’s another cam to give options for people , depending on their needs, requirements, preferences (and budget -  the ATC 9K also $100 less than the Contour HD 1080, which can be big consideration for some people into the mix.

At Sportscamera we sell the Contour cams you are speaking of, GoPro, Tachyon XCmicro, Epic HD, the little clip mini DV MD80, VIO POV, predator and others - so we don’t mind which cam people prefer, we have them all.
We sponsor some freestyle motocross riders and we’re in the process of making stronger brackets for their contour cams , cos the contour bracket isn’t strong enough for their extreme needs out of the box. We’ve made a stainless steel bracket for the Tachyon micro which fits directly into the gopro mounts and IF the Oregon mount isn;t up to speed (we’ve had it on gear before and it has been fine so far) we’ll beef that up too. that’s why we sponsor riders in the field, to get the feedback and improve the products - from actual useage, not theory.

It’s pretty hard to tell what a camera is like off a picture on a computer screen, until you’ve had them in your hands, mounted them and used them, opinions to that point are difficult to validate. the ATC 9K also $100 less than the Contour HD 1080, which can be big consideration for some people into the mix.

We’re done at a cross-coutry moto event at the moment and they’ve gone crazy on the ATC 9K’s. fun times.
