Just take your suitcase then. Bags are always going to be expensive… Or go to DFO, the ripcurl and quikky/DC shops often have good prices for luggage bags there.
I’m tossing up about getting another wheelie snowboard bag for our round the world trip, meaning we would have a snow board bag and a wheelie suitcase each.
Cramming both sets of snow gear in our wheelie snowboard bag IS possible but that thing is on its last legs (rips already repaired, buckles packing it in) and it makes it super heavy and clumsy, and takes up a whole 20kgs (one person’s whole allowance) leaving the other person with just one bag to fit a years worth of both our clothes…Fred thinks I’m crazy but I think one wheelie suitcase and one wheelie snowboard bag each would make a lot more sense…I think the little bit of extra money now would be worth it in the long run.
Nah Cords - Don’t wanna LOL Mainly cause suitcase is on its last legs. And the double deckers seem much more compact! I like the idea of multi compartments too.
Dakine and Burton bags are nowhere near that cost! More in the $100 - $150 price point.
There is always a down side
grrr wrong topic…
My mate has a double decker bag. way too bulky for my liking.
very hand thread
Hmm it turns out the are all the same price!

How do you get away with this luggage allowance wise?
just make the weights spread out between the 2 bags so its adds up to the total allowed (23kgs or whatever). Snowboard bag goes to oversized. Traveled like that myself before…once around the world and a couple of times to and from europe. Most flights allow you 2 bags, as long as the total combined is less than the limit…that is how people travel with surfboards, snowboards, bodyboards, golf bags etc etc.
When freddy came here on his one way ticket 3 years ago, he brought his big backpack and my bodyboard bag with a bodyboard in it and lots of other stuff crammed in.
Yeah but things have changed since then!
Many moons ago (when i first lived overseas) you could get away with ski’s in a bag on their own over and above the luggage allowance (which was 2 bags!)
Just make doubly sure before purchasing another bag to then find you can’t take it.
it depends on the time you purchase
read the fine print when booking your airline tickets
most still let you do the split luggage…....budget airlines/tickets tend not to though
those double deckers bags are pretty nifty….good compartmentized bags
bulky…expensive but very cram-able
yeah well I will definitely be double-checking the luggage conditions of any ticket that we get.
More than likely fred will put his foot down and we’ll end up in some silly situation and then he’ll wish he’d just let me buy the bag! hahahaah
Started reading this thread and realized my Ride board sack wasn’t quite sufficient for my trip to Buller (from WA) in 2 weeks…. So just bought the Dakine Low roller bag.
Hopefully the board and gear stays well protected in that!
Hey Mikal,
Welcome to boardworld!!!!
If you are coming all the way from WA, why are you going to Buller? Keep trucking a bit further and hit up Hotham or Falls
Thanks mate,
Got a mate who works the season in Buller each year so going to visit him… First time boarding in Aus and second time ever so I doubt it matter much where I go I’m gunna suck anyway haha!
