Oh wow!! what a story, I cant believe they didnt answer you! and haha Ive seen it before, they hold on for dear life. Nice work!
Yeah it was not long after that when i posted on here about boarding and tbars and the shred!
they hold on for dear life. Nice work!
x5 better than giving up and joining the line again.
My goal for next weeks trip to Buller is as follows…
- Start riding switch, get comfortable…
- Learn to jib comfortably, 50/50
- Nose press
- Hopefully learn to backside boardslide
I know that stuff is probably second nature to most people out here, but this will be my second time boarding ever… So I’ll be happy to progress at all to be honest.
I think I did quite well in NZ earlier this year for my first time, was able to negotiate all green runs with ease and most blue runs. Didn’t even attempt to ride switch though. So hopefully I can pick up where I left off.
if you can manage all that on your second boarding trip ever, then you’re doing pretty well!
the most fun thing about snowboarding is that every single day you ride, you get better…and there are so many little things you can try to help improve…but every day you ride, your board control gets better.
when it comes down to it, its all about board control, even for the pros.
good luck and have fun - I’m sure you will!
Ok dudes….this hasn’t been posted in for a while, and I’m here doing a season - so I’ll kick it off again with a question.
I’ve noticed in footage before and in this photo of me freddy took the other day, that as I push off a kicker, either my front (right) arm or both arms go straight up in the air. This makes it difficult to balance and they often swing around to wind up the windows, and if I was going to try a grab or anything else really, it just doesn’t happen.
Here’s a pic showing what I mean.
Any hints for avoiding it? I thought I could hold my jacket or my pants, like you do to try and stop counter-rotation when riding, but I’m not sure if that is a good idea or not?
Has anyone else had that problem and fixed it?
You’re way ahead of me in skill, cords, but why don’t you try sessioning some little kickers you’re super-comfortable on and really focus on keeping your arms down over those, then transition back up to the bigger ones? I don’t like the idea of grabbing your jacket in the air, but I would think deliberately pointing down and out in front with your front arm might do the job.
Is it just while you’re spinning or anytime you hit a kicker? Do the pants thing that you already suggested for yourself, or try for a grab. The reason you’re probably flailing is you’re leaving the lip unbalanced. Just practice straight airs with your shoulders in line with your feet and focusing on where your arms are.
It’s not entirely a bad thing - a lot of pros do funny things with their arms while riding too and it’s part of their style. Horgmo always chucks one arm straight up in the air.
Yeh moving arms is a result of leaving unbalanced, not causing it. if you leave flat and balanced with a controlled pop, you will have no problems keeping them down. I dont grab my pants/jacket, but point to my tip and tail, which I find helps heaps.
I’m starting getting comfortable in hitting side hits even though it’s only my second day of the season. For some reason frontside side hits are harder for me compared to backside side hits.
Its anytime I hit a kicker…I don’t spin off anything that I’d call a proper jump yet….so mostly I’m just trying for shiftys or grabs…but I’ll leave the kick and next thing my arms are up in the air if I was trying to shifty or grab it just doesn’t happen!
I think I’ll try K2’s idea of have my arms pointing at tip and tail. The problem is remembering to do it. I can think really hard about what I want to try and do and then as soon as I’m heading towards the kicker I go into this weird zone where I’m running on pure instinct and I forget everything I was trying to remember until I’ve landed.
Will see how I go and get back to ewes!
Also in your picture youre looking at your feet. That’s a pretty common reason people leave the take off unbalanced.
Ok so I tried to concentrate on keeping my back shoulder (left shoulder cos I’m goofy) over my left foot and not going up the kick too counter-rotated….it didn’t work, I ate it! haha I obviously tried to hard as I bad way too much back weight. First I ollied onto a box with weight on my heels and I only just saved it, then I got back weight going off that same kicker and landed on my butt. I tried that kicker 3 times and stacked every time (3rd time only cos I was hesitant due to previous 2 stacks and landed on the flat and bounced.
I suck at snowboarding. hahaha
Are you doing ollies off kickers? Don’t.
Can you post a video or something so we can see better what’s happening during the take off?
yeah I’ll try and find something. I know I have stuff already somewhere. It’ll probably be a week though.
Nah not ollieing off kickers, just pushing off.
