I think next year you guys need to be internet dorks and have a set meet up time/place.
There was heaps of miss connections this year that the above might help with!
Isn’t a Mazda 3 a Front Wheel Drive or did you mean 4wd? Get an auto diesel if you go 4wd mate, the petrol 4wd tend to go through the juice a bit for their size and power or lack thereof. They do tend to set you back a little more on purchase price generally speaking though so it’s a case of sorting out your needs and priorities for the car and buying something suitable.
Ideally I could buy something for under $30K, turbo diesel dual cab ute, the size and clearance of an F250 dual cab, went like a Maloo ute, had part time and low range 4wd, returned 8l/100km, had less than 80,000km on the clock, was black or dark blue and has a weapon in car entertainment system. So far that has proven impossible so I went with the Ford Ranger instead, I still keep my eye out though ha ha ha!
I want the extended trip as well Lanox, starting a new job and having to have time off to get my ear op done has made that a bit hard but I’m going to try and get two days for the shred so I can have 4 days on snow in a row, might try stretch for 5 maybe. Almost anything is possible if you want it bad enough, just make the right choices and sacrifices and manage the expectations of those around you as to what you’re going to be doing through winter.
Don’t get me wrong i love 4 or 5 + days straight on the snow. Its just that i don’t have leave considering i just got married not long a go and honeymoon then went to USA then next Feb Japan etc. So i think weekend drives would be perfect and camping it out.
Mate only expectation i have around me is my wife lol other then that i do what i want when i want most of the times till i don’t go over board with it and she tells me off lol ...
but all your points are very valid, its all how you organize your self.

Hell yes!!
Last season my friends were very tolerant and some even moved things round to weekend I could make it. The negative of that was that I was constantly away from home and was absolutely shattered by end of season.
This year they seemed to have let me fall of the radar LOL so I have had a lot more quite weekends mid season. Now that the weather is getting warmer they have started asking me places again and I am pretty busy from now til the end of Sept.
Lanox if you only have one car can I suggest a Subby? You wife might appreciate driving it more than a ute!
If you get a seasons pass next year you might want to get the Tube add on then you don’t need to worry about 4 or AWD.
Tube SUX ha ha ha ha! Doesn’t have to be a ute Oz, I seem to remember you being partial to the good old Jeep’s!
Add Dark and I to the list of season pass holders for 2013, can’t wait for next yr now!
We added the ski tube too.

Me or Lanox for the Jeep??

By all means the tube does suck. But to get the option of jumping on the tube on a snow day and if I stay on the mountain for the price of 2 days driving up, it’s a given.
But if someone is driving and offering me a lift, I’ll gladly take it lol.
nah nah not going to get a ute at all.
I was looking at Jeep Cherokee diesel or anything that is little bigger all in planing stages right now.
Either way what ever happens happens as long as i have fun.
Hell yes TJ - just one overnight stay onsnow and you get your money back!
I have cheap onsnow accom too! Next year we can stay a couple of times
With the tube on the pass, the Mazda should do the journey fine. Grab some roof racks for boards / luggage and you can easily get 4 in there.
Or limit the trip to 3 people and drop the double seat in the back for luggage
NTHN when you camp how do you get to lifts ? is there parking area ?
I will be straight up i have never been to Perisher hence the reason for stupid questions.
Most of the time i have gone to snow has been Thredbo.
Lanox I know you didn’t ask me but i will answer anyway
This is a pic with Perisher car park being behind the main building. Its a big Mother F@#ker, but gets full very very quickly.
You need to get out of Jindy early on the weekend (ideally before 7.15am) to avoid the crazy day tripper traffic.
Nthn is quite partial to parking at Smigs nowadays and there is always Guthega (but you need chains a lot more frequently if you go to Guthega as the snow plough rarely go on the road)
aha…
Thanks Oz it didn’t matter who answered.
so why can we leave the car there when we go to sounddeck ? for shred.
Because overnight parking is not permitted at Perisher.
It is mainly due to snow clearing but it is in force all season long.
Guthega is a pain in the ass on the best of days. It’s got pot holes everywhere and is like and extra 20 mins on the Perisher drive.
And then you have to be off the lifts by 4 as the ones to get you back close early (almost made that mistake once, got every last lift back to the car…)

The tube, while it is annoying, is a great place to leave the car (only 2-3 days a year you will ever need chains there, if ever.) You get out pretty close to the tube, no walking, then go inside and get on the train and tighten boots, screws on boards, set binding angles, eat breakfast etc
Then you are at the mountain.
And on the way home, grab a pie and drink from the shop and eat it on the way down. Way less driving, less traffic via Alpine way and easier drive.
