Well you’ve sold me Rider, I want to try a Greats now!
Will we have some at the Shred? 57-58 Size perhaps?
Dan my mate as one he will have it at the shred if Jez doesn’t bring it i am sure he will let you test it.
Haha, I sold him that board. What size did he buy again? 156? Has he tried it yet?
We will try to get as many YES demo boards there as possible. Still working it out but I’m sure it won’t be a problem.
EDIT: Just read page 2. That’s right, it was the 158 Craig Kelly.
Jez you are my hero….. just make sure you have JACKPOT plz…
yes you did sell it to him…
Yeah he went to perisha while i was in USA he said he loved it, 100 times better then his old one he said.
Guys I really hate to be one of those but I’m also getting pushed towards Never summer the Proto or Cobra, on the plus side i hear NS are some strong f***in boards and also the Vario Grips sound good to me. I’m still leaning towards the YES boards its between PYL and The greats only bad thing I read about them is that their strong might not be up to par, the edge to be exact something about it being thinner i don’t know also edge hold over ice compared to NS.
Anyone that has been on these if you have any input it would be great appreciated.
thank guys
@chucky: I don’t think so. I’ll probably say it’s a medium-stiff flex (prolly a 6-7/10 if you like numbers), similar to my T.Rice but more playful at the tips. I love the flex, I thought it was perfect for me.
Pick Your Line is really a big-mountain / all-mountain type board. I wouldn’t suggest it unless you really want to focus on riding big, fast lines. Not what you’re looking for.
The Greats rides great in pow. That’s what the CamRock profile is there for; rockered nose and tail equals float. This will handle any pow you will experience in Whistler. The Asym sidecut works really well. I rode the 2013 Greats in Whistler for a week last season. It basically just gives you a tighter heelside turn. Get it on edge and it turns really effectively.
Tragna Maction is a serrated/wavy edge. Basically gives you more edge hold in icy conditions.
The Basic is a solid board but extruded for next year as I mentioned. I wouldn’t use an extruded board in Whistler unless you’re tight on budget. Less wax absorption, slower and doesn’t hold momentum as well. Stick to a sintered base for Whistler.
My pick would be the Greats. One of the best all-round boards on the market in my opinion.
SOLD!
Rider26,
I’m in! size for me you thinking 154 for sure? or go with the 156 Pow and all? 5’6” at 165lbs also planning on the NOW bindings with this setup for practice and of course Whistler any objections ???
I think the 154 will be more versatile but the 156 isn’t too big either. You might find the 156 a tad on the long side for everyday riding (park, playing around, groomers etc). I think the 154 will be fine in the pow though, and you could always set it back a notch if you want more float for really deep days. Personally I would go for the 154 but that’s me.
finney was riding the YES Tasman 154 (which is pretty much a Greats with limited edition graphics) all season in Whistler and he is very close to your weight. finney, what do you think? 154?
Sorry for the late reply just saw this thread.
Given your height and weight I think the 154 would be perfect for you, I’m the same weight but 5’11’’ and had no issues on mine all winter here in whistler.
As for NS - I’ve only demo’d a 152 Evo so not exactly the best comparison.
Thank you finney
I will go with the 154 I think it’s just right, I do have a question about the Greats being a asymmetrical board, I read that it only makes sence and works ideally for twinned out, duck-stance riding is that true? Because I don’t have a duck stance just want to make sure that won’t play a part in the boards performance.
I dont think it will make too much of a difference if you are ducking or not. Pretty much any stance you have your heels are going to be closer together than your toes, so the pressure distribution is different healside to toe side. This is what the asym side cut is there to counter…i think
K2 is right. Unless you’re rocking 0/0 angles, the asym sidecut will help you. Also, you probably should have a duck stance if you want to progress your freestyle skills. Definitely play around with you stance when you get the chance.
I will go with the 154 I think it’s just right . . .
I was just in at STM (sorting out some Mac computers for them), and was told they’ve got two 2013 YES Greats in the 154 size that they’ll very soon be discounting! GET ON IT!!!

Thank for the tip I currently -6/+15 stance I remember tweaking it a little last season but not to the point of doing with a duck stance, any tips on where to start from I was thinking like a -12/+12 to start and then make the adjustments accordingly
Thank you finney

I just read that thread about the 153 vs 156 and allot of great points where brought up do you guys think that 154 will still give me the stability on the landings when I’m need going off of the bigger jumps/drops hopefully when I’m in Whistler? also stability at speed? just wondering if i should go with the 156 instead.

How is this possible not be all American about it but I really thought we get the gear earlier or the same time everyone else does. The YES website doesn’t even have the new line up yet but then you guys over there at STM already have it available how is that possible the only thing is the price not its much higher on STM website and I’m not sure they ship to the states and it so the price for shipping would be killer.

+15/-6 is duck stance. Duck stance includes any stances that have a positive front angle and a negative back angle.
Thank you finney

In a nutshell, yes, you will have sufficient stability to stomp anything (of course technique plays a huge factor but the board will be fine). Should be fine at speeds too.
154: easier to turn, easier to press, more playful, probably more ‘fun’
156: more stable, more float, will carve a bit better
The 154 will be more versatile, as we’ve suggested. I would go for the 154 but it’s up to you to weigh up the pros and cons and make a decision for yourself. Personally I don’t think you will experience any problems with float or stability on the 154.

Australia is a year ahead for many snowboarding brands. We are often one of the first countries in the world to get the new products.
