Burton released its ‘innovations’ for the 2013 season.
Release can be found right here
Now is it me or are some things just not innovative?
I know that Burton is using Gore-Tex for years(and I love it)
I don’t know enough about bindings to know if the reflex thing is something new
The raduction thing seems weird to me
I have known for years that a smaller board will give you more to play around with but is this some new tech?
I have Vans Matlocks 2012 so the Speed Dial thing is something I’m sure of that it is not new, except for the fact you can turn it in the other direction to loosen it(which is the only complaint I could have had with my Vans)
Anyone else have an opinion on this? I would love to hear them!
I don’t think it is THAT often that truly new tech comes around…so most years they have to come up with different names for the same thing or they do make tiny improvements and make them sound colossal so that you’ll still be interested in purchasing their gear.
Re:flex came in last season and I think it was a pretty big move in the right direction. Burton really have been pushing binding development for a while now. The Re-flex idea is really cool; the binding disc has a hinge underfoot which allows the board to flex more naturally under the feet. I have stepped into a Re:flex binding with one foot and a regular Burton binding with the other foot, and to be honest the difference was very noticeable.
Probably worth mentioning the 2013 Burton website just went live. You can check our all the new product. http://www.burton.com
I would love to test the Re:flex, I have a pair of Burton Missions which I love(I love all my gear )
They are really comfy and are so awesome to ride with, if the Re:flex enhances this, I would probably love it ^^
And I think Cords, you really summed it all up ^^
Whats the other company that brought out hinged base plates?
Forum? Which is owned by Burton anyway
Forum? Which is owned by Burton anyway
Is it? Mind = blown
From memory pretty sure it is. Burton, Analog, Anon, RED, Forum, and I think Special Blend as well are all same parent company. Maybe someone can clarify this?
^^ Yep. Also Gravis and Foursquare.
Burton, RED, Anon, Gravis and Analog were all the original Burton brands. They then purchased Forum, Special Blend, Foursquare and Jeenyus Snowboards - all owned by Four Star Distribution at the time. Jake Burton bought these brands as he didn’t want to see them fall in the hands of ski companies.
Mind = even more exploded(is that even possible?)
Explains why I like most of these brands
Burton rocks
I remember trying the reflex bindings when they first came out. It was on the Cartels that came with the auto cant foot beds. They were some really nice bindings, the high back wasn’t to my liking, but you could feel the flex through the base plate and that made a difference. Auto cant helps for shorty’s like me if a wider stance is wanted because it relieves the pressure off the knees.
The reflex tech is actually a step forward IMO, its burtons way of providing EST like (baseless) bindings to everyone no matter what you ride, and in fact Baseless bindings have been done before a LONG time ago lol same with rocker but as with everything, whats old is new again
The whole board reduction “tech” is really just the shape of the tip and tail allowing the rails to extend further without making the board bigger, giving you more effective edge on the same area. Its nothing mindblowing, just some good ole high tech CAD, however it does work!
Keep in mind that every year companies will claim radical new improvements that will change the way you snowboard but in reality these are all just marketing gimmicks in order to keep things fresh and make you spend your $ Some of these gimmicks work well, some dont make the slightest difference in most situations
Forum? Which is owned by Burton anyway
Rumor has it, the evil B bought The Program (Forum, Foursquare, Special Blend) because Forum had the rights to the Channel system. I don’t really give a crap about Forum, but I really wish they’d kept their greedy mitts OFF Foursquare and Special Blend!
