And Snow Park.

Ha that’s pretty interesting. Fairly informative I reckon. But I would of thought NZ has more snow on average. I mean Thredbo and Perisher average just over 2m. I remember reading (don’t know how accurate) that Treble Cone averages a bit over 5. Another plus for NZ is the much more stunning scenery.

. . . if anyone from Australia thinks a weekend trip to NZ is possible for the same price as going to Perisher from Sydney, you gotta be dreaming!

True, it’ll never be if you’re cool with camping, backpackers or sleeping in your car etc.

However, once the ‘new’ Porters is fully operational - for anyone wanting a decent level of on-snow accommodation, once all costs are factored in, it’ll definitely be possible.

Porters.

Yeah.

I think that you’re thinking about base Dan, the amount of actual snow that falls would be quite a lot more than that.  We have had quite a few 40-50cm snow events so far this year but a base of 165cms is reported.

Porters!

The only problem I can see with Porters, is that as it’s so close to Christchurch, once all the new infrastructure goes in, weekend crowds could start to build.

just drive 10-20mins round the corner to the next field raspberry

Yeah, true. However none of them have anywhere near the infrastructure Porters will have once they’re done.

that’s why they’re good smile

a few years back - transworld mag were asked where their favourite place to board was

TRANSWORLD SNOWBOARDING :  “If I had to stay in one area, on one mountain, in one place, to snowboard for the rest of my life, it would be Temple Basin. It’s that good”.

god i love that place

Yeah, but it’s a bit of a Catch 22 situation. I’d prefer the infrastructure - but with that comes the crowds.

Craigeburn has some good terrain, but the bottom nutcracker can be hellish in the section where it can be dramatically off-camber. No probs with the nutcracker itself, just with the off-camber section. Last time I was there, the snow in that section was quite stiff, and for my weight on the board I was riding, there was NO way I could hold a toeside edge without constantly slipping away from the tow, and pulling the cable off the pulleys. I HATED that day there!
