IceBreaker merino ski socks.  Wasn’t planning to buy these, but was returning a pair of regular socks due to wrong size and decided to upgrade to these.  Currently an extra 30% off, so would be about $27.

try the smartwool ones if you get a chance, they’re awesome

Boardworld socks would be next on my list, but will try smartwool if I ever get to the point where I need more!

Pretty stoked about it ay..

You should be.

Had the board since Saturday. Think that was my 2nd session on it.

Really impressive for so little time on it. Are you fairly comfortable at speed on a longboard? Do you slide?

I cant describe how much it feels like snowboarding tho.

Yeah, there’s nothing that even comes close to Freebord for snowboard-like feel.

I know Steen Strand - the guy who invented them (and owns the company). It was originally an engineering project he did at Stanford. I’ve actually got the first Freebord in Australia gathering dust here at home. The original model was called the Alpha 112, and was longer and more shaped like a snowboard. I reviewed it for Australian Snowboarding mag about 12 years ago.

I caught up with Steen at a SIA trade show in Vegas, and he told me my review resulted in a crapload of sales in Australia, so he offered to give me another one - the (then) latest model, the X-80.

I actually said thanks, but no thanks, because I was already waaaaaaayyyyyyy over my luggage limit. A week after arriving home there was a large package on my desk - he’d had one delivered by courier. Awesome guy. We ended up reviewing that one for Inside Sport mag.

I’m bummed I never got good at riding either of them - because that was around the time my knee was starting to get dodgy, so it was painful to run - hence, the act of jumping off the board when necessary kinda worried me too much to ever get really comfortable with it.  downer

On that topic, did anyone else see the triple jumper dislocate his kneecap?

On his last of the 3 jumps, he went to launch and BAM, kneecap goes sideways and he goes down in a crumpled mess…

Youch!!!

That’s my fear pretty much every time I ride. It’s really hard sometimes to try and not think about it, and just enjoy myself regardless. I’ve lost count of the riding sessions that’ve been tainted through fear of blowing my knee.  downer

That’s awesome Chucky, as if you wouldn’t have it hanging on your wall LOL reckon you could post a few more pics of the original. Just so I can see the full shape of the board.

That wasn’t my pic - just one I found online. Sure, I can take some pics if you like.

It’s a shame you’re from VIC, Koper, because you’d be welcome to try it out for yourself.

Oh I’ve got one, well, one of the newer ones. I just wanted to see the old school one. grin I love all that stuff. If I ever manage to move out of home I’ll probably end up with a room full of old skate/snowboards LOL

NICE!

Andy Wolf from Premier Snowskates sent me his 3 original models around the same time, and I’ve still got one of them too! The other two were tested/reviewed etc. and I have no idea where they are, but the remaining one I’ve got is completely unused!!!

Iv been skating and surfing ever since i was real young, then snowboarded. just love boarding all round.
Started downhill longboarding sometime last year, eventually led to sliding.

These things are also great once you learn to gain speed on them, i was pretty much racing my mate down the hill
Who was on a mini board setup for bombing hills.

They do feel a little sketchy, but once you convince yourself its going to do what its made to do, there heaps of fun.
