Sochi Volunteers

Avatar

About 8 hours.

My mum’s family is from Holland (she is the 4th of 5 kids, 1st born in Australia). I went there a few years ago and experienced your… Fries with Mayo…

You a skier or boarder? or just really want to volunteer in the winter Olympics?

Haha, yes our famous fries with mayonaise! wink Did you like it?

So this would actually make you 1/8 Dutch right?? smile

Well.. I am none of both, i was a skateboarder, but to be honest i have never been on winter holiday to experience skiing or boarding. After seeing all of the volunteers in London, i got really motivated to become a volunteer for the olympics. And ofcourse Holland is very active in ice-skating so thats more where my interest lies.

I presume you are a snowboarder judging from your avatar? Are there any possibilities in Australia to board? Ok I might be getting a little bit off topic here. But I guess there is no news concerning the application, is there?

haha glad to be of service with regard to your life choices, no matter how small! The amazingness of fries and aioli lords over ALL!
On another note, how is your weight loss going? hahaha Damn those two-edged swords!

Who in your wife’s family is Finnish? Have you been there? Haven’t been yet, but so keen! They breed some damn fine snowboarders over there.

haha the weight loss is on target, an 8 day in a row on a snowboard burnt a hell of alot of calories which is a good start, ive just got to stick with it!!

My wifes dad is 100% finish. He was born there and moved here as a child. Both the wife and I havent been there but she has one of those dual citizenships so it shouldnt be an issue for me to go over which id love to do at some stage

Hi guys,
I decided to sign up to this board, only for this topic, as it was the only one I could find by google concerning the application process for volunteers.

After reading here that the initial invite for the english test would take about 3 days, i was a little bit downstruck because it was already 9 days… however on the 10th day i finally received an invite for the test. Its a pity you dont get the results of the english test, however it is not that hard. I think it corresponds to a high school level of english.

Anyway, i wanted to ask you guys how long did it take after the english test for them to contact you again?

I also got the Course on my calendar, however if you read carefully, it says it concerns the course: EF Test_OCOG ... which corresponds to English First Test OCOG… so i guess this is only the english test. Have you guys “attended” to this course before receiving the russian mail??

Thanks, and i will keep checking this board and updating you regarding my status…

Cheers

Hi Everyone!

I wanted to share the information that I have regarding the “EF Test_OCOG” and the curious date (February 7, 2014). I have been in contact with the Sochi2014 Volunteer Committee.

Regarding the “Test”, the interview date and time that you see on your personal page is a notification for the English test that you have already passed. It is a “dummy” date & time for the system, it means nothing.

If you are an “International Volunteer” and have passed the English Skills test you are not required to take the “skills test” that is in Russian. This is only for Russian Nationals and not for international volunteers. Instead you will be asked to take a personal interview via Skype instead. Personal interviews for international volunteers are planned on the end of August – September 2012. You will receive a notification on your personal page and an invitation letter on your email.

If you are selected you will be expected to participate in at least one “Test Event” held in Sochi sometime between Dec 2012-April 2013. However, a majority of the training will be available on-line for those of us who are not living in Russia.

I also found an interesting website that explains in detail what we will receive including accommodations in Sochi for the Olympics, NOT for Test Events. http://rbth.ru/articles/2012/08/15/sochi_volunteers_face_better_conditions_than_in_london_17393.html

I hope this information helps! Good Luck everyone!

Hey Rob,

Welcome to the site.

Thanks for all your hard work following that up and providing a great read with that link.

Overall, my hype of volunteering just went from 5/10 to about 9/10 (10/10 being on the aeroplane to Moscow lol).

I feel that food, accom, transport and all the other perks far outweigh the $3000+ return flights and am really keen to go.
